Looking to sell my 2006 TJ as is. Not sure how to assess a value starting point to list it. Shop looked at it yesterday and said the frame is acceptable. However, it does have several mechanical issues. Has some engine codes and needs further diagnostic testing. Brake lines and fittings need to be replaced. It does have newer wheels and tires, and the interior is clean. I wouldn't say it's just a parts vehicle, but will need some money put into it to have it safely roadworthy. I know all numbers are tricky and subjective. In fair condition Kelley blue book lists between 5200 and 6500 . Would starting at 4000 be reasonable in anyone's opinion, thanks for any response.

Kenneth, thank you for the reply. It's a six speed manual. Six cylinder ,everything is stock. It has a hard top on it now I also have a soft top that has never been used. I will upload some pictures.

There was some rust under the diamond plate that was put on. Also, some floor rust behind the front seats that would need work.

That much rust on that part of the frame tells us it's likely rotted out in the trouble spots. Nobody who really knows what they are looking at is going to buy that for much more than maybe 4k. I personally wouldn't buy it.

That being said, some kid in high-school would love having your jeep as a first car. Here in Colorado that would likely sell for around 8k if not more. However, I cannot attest to what the market in your area is like.

It looks very clean but one can ask what does "acceptable" on the frame mean? Thats one shops opinion and the rust only gets worst. That being said $4K sounds reasonable for it.

X2 - i think $4-5k is a good starting point. With $5k possible if some issues end up getting fixed.

For example, brake lines. Might be an easy shop day to swap in good parts and bleed the brakes, or to go ahead and swap in engine parts, if they are easily bolted in, and clear engine codes. (“Go’ing and “stopping” would be key selling points with any prospective buyer, IMO)

A couple hours shop time and a couple hundred in parts might just get you that fair KBB value.

Thanks for the response G. I think his meaning was it would be OK for a couple years, but would have to be on the list of things too address sooner than later. I appreciate your opinion. Thanks.

What codes ? Wire wheel and paint carefully the frame. Some of us really like yellow, others not so much !!

Brake lines messy if rusted, end up replacing all ?? Good luck. D

(parts are 4000+ down here so don't sell too cheap)

Ha,inherited from my mother, yellow wouldn't be my first choice 😳. Brake lines definitely need to be done. O2 sensor codes.

$4000 sounds reasonable considering the rust that thing has under it.

I'll bet dollars to donuts it needs a new frame which will run you between $2000 to $8000 depending on if you do the swap yourself or pay a shop to do it.

Sorry for the bad news.

Considering that you inherited this, $4000 sounds reasonable. Don't let anyone lowball you. It will be a nice Jeep for a younger guy that doesn't mind doing his own work.
