I finally got around to installing the MORE 1” raised steering shaft bracket that I have had laying around for a while. It didn’t seem to fit? So I compared it to the stock one. It was 1-3/4” taller and would cause the shaft to hit the top of the hole in the firewall. Rather than call and return it on Monday and wait for a new one I just cut it down so that it was 1” taller than the stock. Just beware if you plan to order one in the future.

I just installed a new production one in my 2000 (1.25 BL) and it fit fine.

Did you collapse the steering shaft to make it's overall length shorter?

The one I have I could not even put it where it needed to go on the frame because the steering shaft would hit the firewall. The shaft could not go high enough to fit.

Your factory bracket looks shorter than the one I took out:

I don't have it anymore but I took that photo when I threw it in a shipment to a forum member.

I wonder if the taller factory bracket would be more appropriate for your application?

I wonder what changed here? I've installed four (4) of these and never had a problem. They all lifted the shaft off the bottom of the hole that goes through the firewall. However, none, that I've ever seen, came close to the top of the hole.

FWIW, everyone I've installed looked exactly like this:

I shortened my lower shaft by collapsing it and then slid my column down in its adjuster slots (inside the Jeep).

I have installed the bracket and the MORE 1' body lift. No issues at all. I noticed a more linear response to the steering rotation after the bracket has been mounted (nothing of amazing).

Everyone else didn’t have an issue. Maybe I received an odd piece. I also had to drill the holes larger for the supplied bolts to fit through.

Is there a difference in height between the 97-02 and 03-06 frames? Or maybe 4cyl frames? I can’t think of any other reason there would be two different OEM bracket sizes. The MORE mount is 1” taller than the tall factory mount, so it makes sense it would be much taller than the short one
