Major electrical issue

Nice work man! Glad you got it figured out and can be more confident in your rig moving forward.

Oops, damn, I might have spoken too soon. I lost power at Fuse #20 in the glove compartment fuse box, the gages stop working, and no crank. Something cut off like a light switch. Before that happens I got a P0320 and now I’m not getting any more codes. Hell of a setback.

What does the #20 fuse go to? It’s a spare slot in my rig.

Is your ASD fuse, ASD relay, and ignition fuse good in the PDC under the hood?

It says Trans? Transmission? I have to pour thru the manual, ASD is ok but the Mutifunction fuse was blown. Whatever is causing my problems seems to be under the dash. I replaced the fuse. The cats are tired of me ignoring them so I got to break. Im almost at the point where want to rip out the dash. I hate tight places. Oh by the way, I put the test light on the right side of the Multifunction fuse terminal and the light has a slight pulse, the left terminal is steady

I could be wrong but I wouldn’t assume the wiring can only be bad under the dash (even though it might be). Meaning I wouldn’t rule out wiring issues in the engine bay until you’ve inspected things.

Do you have any after market items tied into your wiring that could be messing things up? Any evidence of past wiring splices or modifications?

Is your system leaching on the battery when the vehicles is off with the key out?

Any signs of corrosion? Are your grounds good? You can do resistance checks that are more valuable than simply checking for continuity.

Yeah, there is an alarm system I had put in back in 2009. It’s a tangle of spaghetti around the steering wheel mount.

Hey, how’s it going, listen do you know anything about car relays? I found a relay that I’m not sure if it’s part of my after market alarm. I didn’t know they had capacitors on them.

I don't see a capacitor?

Also looks like the harness for a relay without the actual relay.

I see glove box hinges...where do the wires run?

wires coming off my after market alarm going to the main harness around the steering column . Its spliced on to one of the wires coming from the passenger side fuse box fuse 17 or 18 I think. I just disconnected it. my main reason for all the electrical problems have been a recurring crank/no start. For example I would turn the key and the jeep will start strong 6-12 times in a row then suddenly no start 10-12 times in a row, like a short some place or a kill switch. The work done to install the alarm should be cause for a court case. Its a mess under the dash. Never seen anything like it. This harness however just seems to be out of place. The Jeep stars and run now but I'm not comfortable taking it out on the road until Im sure I have the fix. I just need to find out if these harness are sold like this. Im going to chance it and cut the harness wires and remove it and... see what happens

I think it's a diode.

Let's electricity flow one way. I've used them before on trucks to get all the headlights to fire on brights.

i think you are right, it’s an odd place for it tho.

Awe, either way seems odd and out of place based on my very limited knowledge.

Found it. Says it’s a kill switch relay, Audiovox. Says it’s out of stock on eBay. Just so happens my alarm is by audiovox. I’m hoping to find one online and compare it with this one. So far my jeep is starting for now. Thanks for you all help. I’ll post when I find one. My jeep hasn’t been out of the yard for 5 months.

Hey man sorry for the delay I’m visiting my uncle who survived a stroke and brain bleed.

That kinda looks like a diode…that might also be there to bypass the relay’s need to latch. That’s only a guess since I’ve never seen that before.

I used diodes to run LED turn signals and when running front and back cameras with a stereo that didn’t provide selectable options. functions.

That is a relay plug for the aftermarket starter kill. The diode is a clamping diode to stop the voltage spike when the coil of the relay opens from damaging anything connected. Aftermarket alarms use cheap relays better relays have the diode internally. Follow the Black and white wires back to the factory wiring you will find the start wire cut at the ignition switch harness which you can reconnect.

If you look at the wire the relay is tied into at the ignition switch you can tell if it would cause a no crank problem or a crank no start problem.

Dude, I'm triggered, I was at my Uncle John's bedside when he passed in hospice after a stoke 6 years ago in Chattanooga. Hope y'all ok and prayers to him.

Thanks man he’s hanging in there. I appreciate you support, and sorry to hear of your loss.
