Military Memes

My first job after the Marines was as manager at a telecom company.

One day, while trying to correct behavior of those coming in late, I said to my staff something to the effect of "This job is not that hard." I was, of course, thinking of experiences close to this pic.

After some complaints, my management sent me to sensitivity training...

You mean the struggle of standing back up with a full ruck after taking a knee in ankle breaking rocks to receive a FRAGO. Shin splints and blisters. Ass chafing from sweat and three days worth of unwashed BDUs. Dehydrated pork patties. Bathing in a steel pot. Peanut butter that doubles as insect repellant . Standing in formation for a COC ceremony in 95* for hours while the new CO drones on about how he's proud to... yada yada yada. Cold eggs and slimy sausage out of a Mermite can. Getting your ass eaten by the CSM for something that happened under the old PSG. Sitting on a tarmac in the sun waiting for your stick to board for hours only to have the flight canceled and having to execute a forced march to make your time hack.

Oh man, the good old days.

My favorite, First field problem in the army, annual gunnery. Was on the schedule for months.

Walk to the chow tent. Only two items. Grits and wheat bread. Had to man the control tower as ranger safety for the next twelve hours. So I had a grit sandwich

don't forget when they had those Number 10 can size cardboard containers of peanut butter and jelly. Both of them so smeared together that you couldn't tell which was which.

You know that commander was relieved due to that picture?
I'll see if I can find the article about it.

Yes, yes he was: https://www.yourcentralvalley.com/n...elieved-of-duty-after-photo-sparked-ridicule/

Bad enough that he was a Navy Commander (O-5), but he was also the commanding officer of the ship. He is supposed to set the bar to which all others strive. He was replaced (temp) by a full Navy Captain (O-6), which is an indicator that there is more wrong with that ship/crew than just a loony CO. I suspect sh*t will intersect fan.

I've had some officers relieved in my command before so yep I'm pretty sure it's soup sandwich right not...

My 1SG was relieved right before we were going to deploy to Iraq. They planned on giving it to me but then stupid politics got involved and they brought in a E-8 from another unit instead. Of course I'd been the acting 1SG for 3 months and had the unit all ready to deploy. And my old position was already filled by someone so now I was in limbo....

It's amazing how much of what happens to us depends on the right time - right place; and who we know.
