They have the local JROTC at the fair every year and my first couple times going I wanted to rip into these kids for sloppy uniforms and just plain shitty looking. But I resisted... Guess they ain't like how it was when I was in JROTC...

I had a love - hate relationship with those things. We only got them in extremely rough weather, where the galley wasn't open. Lots of places to heat that stuff up in a "Super-Six" 600# steam plant. Though four cigarettes didn't go far on a six hour watch.

I ate them from 1978 until 1984 when they came out with the first MRE's..... I'll take C-rations over the early MRE's. The ones we had in Iraq were better.

In 1972 we had K-rations. All the stories are true. SPAM, 4 cigarettes, 4 matches, canned peaches, Vienna sausage (nasty), 2 sticks of gum. By '74 we were getting C rats. Never saw an MRE.
