Which is, again, useless for his intermittent problem. I spent years in the large scale computer industry using oscilloscopes to test this exact type of sensor and with the intermittent problems he's having, a volt meter is a useless tool since it won't spot intermittent or bad waveforms or erratic waveform shapes. And not that he's going to have an oscilloscope, that's all that is needed... the dealer's console is not needed to troubleshoot it. At this point I'd replace it, they're not expensive or worth worrying about dealer consoles or oscilloscopes.
