I thought I had done all the research. I thought the 1" M.O.R.E. MML install was going to take me 45 minutes. I was incredibly wrong. SoCal got smashed with rain so I couldn't work in the driveway, I needed a tool I didn't have to get the passenger side bracket off the motor. I struggled like hell to get everything lined up by myself - neighbor came to the rescue with a pry bar. Finally got everything torqued down and realized I my fan shroud was now hitting - so I got out the dremel and some self tapping screws...

I'm coming here because I'm fed up and hope someone has a quick answer instead of me having to do a bunch more research.

Yes - they are the rubber M.O.R.E. specifically for my '97 2.5L. Yes - I torqued down everything to (what I could find as) spec - 48 lbs thru bolt, 30lbs to frame, 40 lbs bracket to motor. Finally got everything done, fired her up, and the vibrations at idle are INSANE. I was trying to fix minimal drive line vibrations I was feeling after my 2.5" lift. These vibrations at idle are infinitely worse than the problem I was trying to fix. Once I am moving the gnarly vibes go away and she actually drives great. Am I not torqued correctly? Could it be something else?

Please help me finish my 45-minute project that has turned in to a 5 day one.

What happens to the idle vibrating if you slightly jack up the rear of the trans/transfer case? (Just enough to unload the trans mount…)

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), doesn’t change anything.

Under the trans…. Not the crossmember/skidplate. You’ll meet just as midge of a lift… checking to see if the trans mount bushing is bad…

Maybe I’m crazy but it did feel like it got SLIGHTLY better.

I can almost assure you that I’m dealing with a stock transmission mount from 1997. How does a MML make a bad transmission mount come to life? And why does it feel fine driving but not at idle? I’m learning a lot working on this thing…

Weight will shift to the trans a little, and different angle… both work to change the dynamics.

Looks like the MOPAR mounts are discontinued and near impossible to find. I ordered an Anchor mount - see if that fixes it.

This was on my 4.0 but for what it’s worth, I originally ordered the same mount (rubber bushings) and had pretty bad vibrations. Especially in reverse.

I swapped it out with new OE motor mounts and spacer blocks and the vibration was gone.

I’m hoping this isn’t my case. Those mounts were such a pita to install I’m dreading having to do it again lol

Losing sleep over this thing. Doing more research and I did not loosen the transmission mount before installing the MML. Wondering if that mount is now in a bind. Will loosening and re-torque in the morning.

Loosen it and drive around the block, then retighten it (If you didn't tear it).

Not sure about the 2.4 but on a 4.0 MML by MORE the passenger side sometimes has to be modified as the bracket hit the frame and it transfers vibes into the frame. Make sure you Have plenty of clearance, and consider what it will look like at full torque.

The transmission mount bolts are in slots so the mount can be moved forward/back as needed. The above suggestion by Boogie to loosen them and drive it a bit to make sure there's no binding at the mounts and then retighten them was a good one.

Loosened the bolts almost all the way (they were TIGHT), drove it around the block, re-torqued to 21lbs. Feels the same at idle, and now my fan shroud is hitting the fan again. So there was definitely some correction there…

Out of frustration, I placed an order for an Anchor transmission mount last night. I’m not sure what else to check.

It’s worth noting that when torqueing the motor mounts to the frame, the top bolts were tough to tighten down. Like the mounts weren’t lined up perfectly or something.

I'm realizing looking at this photo back on my computer... Is that a piece of wood under the transmission mount? Am I crazy? Is that normal??
