I'm hoping for some help. I noticed my fog lights weren't turning off - which happened a few times on my old 2003 Jeep, so I knew it was time to replace the multifunction switch. The little pull-out fog light switch had worn down. This time, however, as I was driving I was driving back home (prior to installing the new MF Switch) I noticed a small amount of smoke coming from where the flasher relay is....which I assumed was from the Flasher Relay going bad.
I got a multifunction switch from O'Reilly's (which I'd done with my old Jeep as well) and installed it, and now my turn signals, hazards and back brake lights do not work. I assumed this was an issue with the Flasher Relay, so I bought one from Auto Zone and installed it.. I know Jeeps can be a little finnicky on the aftermarket parts they take...and sure enough the Duralast brand didn't work. I then ordered one from Quadratec and installed that, and that did not fix the problem - but it is still the relay that is installed in the jeep....but I'm now thinking the issue is not the relay.
I thought maybe the issue was the Multifunction Fuse under the hood - and sure enough the fused was blown. So I bought a box of new fuses - and the fuses blow the second I put them in the slot. I went through 4 fuses before I decided to cry uncle and log on the Forum.
I have LED instrument panel and dash light bulbs, but I have standard headlights, turn signal lights and brake lights. The flasher I got from Quadratec does reference LED - but I believe it can be used for either LED or non-LED applications (though I welcome confirmation on that).
Has anyone experienced this before? Could it be a bad ground? Bad relay? a DOA multifunction switch altogether? I checked the fuses in the fuse box behind the glove box and they look ok.
Appreciate any and all advice. Thank you.
