2004 LJ. Jeeping in Moab this week and all of a sudden the Jeep started throwing engine codes, all of the following all at the same time
2 for charging system - 1638 & 1594.
1775 transmission fault
0202 - #2 fuel injector

The fuel injector made sense is the engine started having a miss.

Transmission code maybe it acted a little funky for a few minutes.

The alternator and charging system checked out all good.

cleared out all the codes and the only one that came back was the fuel injector and engine continue to miss. Swapped in a new number 2 fuel injector and the code went away and it ran fine.

I have heard throwing a bunch of random engine codes can signal the demise of the ECM. Any truth to that or any other diagnosis based on the described?

The 2004’s have separate engine and transmission computer. The codes you were throwing are:

1638-

  • Faulty Generator (Alternator)
  • Generator harness is open or shorted
  • Generator circuit poor electrical connection
  • Powertrain Control Module (PCM) programming
  • Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

  • 1594
  • Faulty Ambient/Battery temperature sensor
  • Faulty Alternator
  • Alternator harness is open or shorted
  • Alternator electrical circuit poor electrical connection

  • 1775

  • Low battery voltage
  • Faulty LR Pressure Switch
  • LR Pressure Switch harness is open or shorted
  • LR Pressure Switch circuit poor electrical connection
  • Faulty Transaxle Solenoid Pack

    0202
  • Faulty fuel injector 2
  • Fuel Injector 2 harness is open or shorted
  • Fuel injector 2 circuit poor electrical connection
How old is your battery? If your battery is over a year old and/or ever died, my technician recommends changing it.

Have you gone through the wiring?

I can check your ecm if you’d like to send it in to me.
