Let me preface this by saying a couple of weeks ago, my car (Jeep) cover had water in it, as per usual I stuck my arm up to let it drain from the sides. Well this time, the cover came off of the windshield and soaked both me and my steering wheel/ console. I put a hair dryer on it for about five hours and a floor blower overnight. The next day I started it up and was getting an airbag light, drove it to town, everything else was fine.
Then the next day I was going to get it inspected, airbag light was off but it was throwing P0123, ran like crap, so much so, I turned around and came home so I wouldn't get stranded. I pulled the TPS and cleaned it, it had been acting kinda wonky anyway. Code didn't go away, even after erasing from the reader. So I ordered an new one (old one was an autoparts store one from PO). I ordered an NGK/NTK as most of the other sensors on our TJ's are theirs and it was thirty bucks cheaper than Mopar...And NGK has never let me down, anyway the Mopar is 80 bucks on Rockauto right now if you're looking btw.
I digress.
Cranked her up and the code was still there, tried to erase w/ the reader to no avail, disconnected the battery, same.
I pulled the the column off and unplugged the pigtails. Code was gone. I figured bad clockspring from all the water, I cleaned the pigtails w/ electrical cleaner, put di-electric grease on them. Plugged in the CC/ horn and no CEL. Disconnected the battery again, plugged in the airbag, no CEL.
Hopefully this little tidbit will help somebody else out before resorting to putting in a new clockspring.
