Just posting for anybody that might be interested I saw that my local Jeep salvage yard has a banks turbo system. I went to check it out today when I was picking up another part. The jeep was definitely burnt in a fire unsure of the condition but I think the guy was asking $800 bucks (seems very negotiable) for the whole system. The engine bay looked unburnt however I have no idea of the condition of the turbo and I doubt he does either but if anybody’s interested it’s at jeep parts depot in Sun Valley California. If you do happen to go tell them Connor sent you as he may hook me up in the future if I need a part lol. i’d probably pick the system up myself however I’m not mechanically inclined enough to know whether the system is salvageable or not

Do you recall seeing the intercooler alongside the turbo?

I reached out via Facebook and waiting on a response. I’m out in Southern Oregon and am interested as I could use the intercooler for my Banks kit.

I wrote him about that last night. It likely doesn’t have one. You can see the heat exchanger missing in the grill.

It looks to me as though the fire may have started around the turbo. The air intake scoop is gone (that is where the hole in the hood is), the fender flare is melted, and the hood looks heat discolored aft of that. Admittedly, most of the fire damage is in the cabin but I am suspicious about where the fire started. There may not be much of the turbo system left.

Yea I asked for photos expecting to be disappointed. I noticed the scoop is gone which means the filter, housing, and tube are likely gone. And with the intercooler missing, the setup is less than ideal.

I did not notice the intercooler. It looked too risky for me, but I figured I would at least let them the forum know as these turbo kits are almost unicorn status. Someone may get some use from it

You would have noticed if it was there.

It was defintely super cool of you to let folks on the forum know about it.

My guess is he has no idea whether the system is complete or works at all’. The other side of that coin is it could be had for dirt cheap

He seemed like a nice guy but he wanted more than double what I would have paid, and even half his asking price wasn't a good deal.

There's some stuff with that kit that must be included for it to work (e.g., the alternator relocation bracket). In response to my questions, he said he had gotten busy and that he'd reply the next day. There was no reply and the listing was removed soon after.

None of this guarantees he sold it or that it can't be bought for a better deal, but things weren't trending in the correct direction. IMO, you better know what you're getting if you pursue this kit. Even if the turbo kit was whole, it's still missing the intercooler.

Yeah I agree, I never asked what he was asking for it. He usually has great prices, sorry it didn’t work out

No need for an apology, it was super awesome of you to let us know it existed. I called to see if it might work for spare parts, so there was no let down on my end. I have a feeling he understandably didn't want to give it way for too cheap, but he also didn't understand how involved and impaired the kit was. As with many things, the devil was in the details.
