Hi Gang
I'm a 76 year old Wrangler Driver driving Wranglers for 25 years or more. I'm getting a little suspicious regarding the 'Rebuild Quality' at NAPA. This is my 2nd starter motor (rebuild) replacement which also failed.
The 1st replacement starter motor had a faulty Bendix which wouldn't always 'Dis Engage' immediately (an intermittent problem), but of high enough concern as it could have damaged the Flywheel.
The 2nd replacement starter motor worked fine the very first time. Then it developed a problem where it ran continously until I disconnected the battery. Unless, there's another issue elsewhere, (somewhere), it just doesn't add up. And now I'm suspicious regarding the 'Rebuild Quality' at this particular NAPA location in Florida where I live.
I researched possible causes which all led to another faulty starter.

Troubleshooting ideas:
- Use a test light or multimeter and test for power from the ignition switch to the solenoid and starter when you turn the key. Some cars also have fuses or relays that should be tested as well to find the break in the chain of command from switch to starter.
- All cars have a safety interlock, whether to make sure the clutch is disengaged, or the shifter is in park or neutral. Check that this switch is sending power through it as well.
- Tap on the starter with a spanner or small hammer as someone turns the key. Oddly enough, this old standby still can work when there is a minor issue jamming things up in the Bendix or solenoid. Tried that No Go ...
