Need advice on what to do with problematic 2001 Sahara

My previous comment about it not being bad was after I only looked at last picture. After further examination…I don’t know how the transmission mounts can be permanently repaired.

Crazy! That my my skid did. Dropped while driving a dirt road. I had to ziptie it up and drive slowly home. Safety Caps on mid section and rear trail arm both sides. Looks like a new frame now and is solid. Absolutely nothing wrong with caps. It's a big job cutting them out and finding someone to weld them in was a chore. My mechanic let me use his lift to cut and place the sections then he welded them in. It sucks to be in that spot. Being worth it is your call. Good luck. No matter what having a 23yr old Jeep warrants having a 2nd ride.

I’d fix that frame from the pictures, but I too am poor lol . I spent $400 on a welder and about $300 on the prefabricated pieces to fix my center skid sections and rear trailing arm sections. That’s been nearly 1-1/2 years ago and it’s held up great so far.

@TJ60Anniversary Obviously the frame is shot. You have two options there, safety-caps or full frame replacement. There are pros and cons to both. But before you decide to fix the frame, what does the rest of the Jeep look like?

The rest of the Jeep is in great shape except for two things. The hood has a few dime sized areas where the paint has chipped off and you can see the clear coat begining to bt . I did cover the chips with touch up paint because I didn’t want to risk those spots rusting.

the other issue is the a/c. the blower stopped working and instead of me just picking up a new blower motor I let a friend rig it so it was blowing all the time. Well his wiring job caught on fire and now I have to find a wiring harness for the heater a/c.

If the rest of the Jeep is relatively rust free, especially underneath like the torque boxes, then I’d pursue repairing the Jeep and preventing future rust. I'd also have a reliable 2nd vehicle. Personally, I like Civics, but you have to pay a little premium for them.

You get what you pay for. Take it as a cheap lesson and fix things right the first time.

The smart money says it’s time to let go. It’s not easy I know. I bought a new F150 in 2004 and drove it for 17 years. After the second crappy 3v triton engine jumped time with just 110000 miles on it,I let it go. If you can’t fix or replace that frame yourself, it’s just not worth it.

So true. (y)

Most SafeTCap authorized places will charge about $2,500.00 - $3,500.00 to completely cut out cancer and re-weld in their new SafeTCaps.
