Hello to anyone reading. I am new to jeeps and the jeep world.

I recently acquired a 2005 jeep wrangler rubicon with 98k miles.

It has a hard 1st to 2nd shift and wont go past 2nd. After doing some research everything pointed to a failing PCM. I replaced the unit and it is still having the same issue. Where and what else could it be? Could it be the shift solenoid pack or Transmission oil? I checked the ATF in park and it seemed to be at a sufficient level and the color is Ok. I attached a picture of the ATF color. If someone can point me to another thread or forum I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

Things repalced:
PCM/TCM with a Wranglerfix unit.
Transmission RPM input and output sensors.

Update:

I took the back covers off of the first and last connectors covers in the row. I combed through the wiring from the connector down about 6 inches. I didn't find anything that would indicate it has been damaged or stripped.

I then went down to harness from the Tcm to the back of the valve cover and down. I went through the wiring and didn't find anything pointing to a stripped or damaged wire. After that I pulled the connector off of the Solenoid pack and put my camera up there to look for bent pins or corrosion. I found dust and other debris inside. I blew out the connector to the best of my abilities and lightly dusted it with a Q-tip. I don't think I cleaned it enough as of right now. I went on to inspect the trans rpm input and output sensors and noticed that the connectors did not seat completely against the sensor it self. Im not sure if the connector needs some sanding for it to seat 100%.

After all of that I went and took it for a ride down the street. It went down the street flawlessly and shifted through all the gears no issues. (First time I'm feeling it go through all the gears.) I went down the main street and it was doing awesome. I got up to 60mph and the rpm was around 1.9k - 2k. I rolled up to the light to do a U-turn and on my second attempt to go through the gears it crapped out. It would hard shift into 2nd and spike the rpms until. I got home. It also threw a P0700 (P). The P0731 seems to be gone as of right now.

Tomorrow, Im hoping to clean the connectors to the TCM and solenoid pack with some electrical cleaner and see what I can do about the Rpm speed sensor connectors.

If anyone has some tips, advice, other things to look or a guide on trouble shooting and seeing if wires are shot or not, please feel free to post them.

Thank you all

Good morning and thank you for the update. I would like to get that pcm back in here and run it in my Jeep just to double check it.

Please send me your order number as well.

Thanks,

Mark

Hey Mark, Whats the best way to get you the order number? Don't want to sound too stupid just don't know if someone can use that order number to get something out of you.

Thank you for replying.

I think new members can’t send private messages until a certain number of posts. But @Chris can help with that.

Update: 9/28/23

I got a call back from Wranglerfix's tech team and they recommended unplugging the connectors to the PCM. I unplugged the connectors to the PCM/TCM for about 20 seconds and plugged them back in. I then went for a quick spin and the issue was still there hard 1st to 2nd. I came back home and took both connections off to the battery and let it sit for 15 minutes. Tightened up the connections and went for a spin and no difference still same issue.

Tomorrow I'll try swapping to the old PCM and ill see if theres a difference to be noticed. Ill also try swapping in one old transmission RPM speed sensor and see if anything changes. Ill also go through and clean and tighten every ground I can find.

This week I hope to change the ATF fluid and filter. The kit I purchased comes with a reman solenoid pack, is it reasonable to replace that? Or since the other day it went through all gears fine for a little bit it would be a solenoid issue?
