Can you guys help me out a little bit? I have a 1998 TJ that I absolutely love. My 43-year-old Niece is looking for a Wrangler and we've been searching for a TJ for her but really haven't found anything. She's willing to spend a little bit more money so I'm wondering if we should go for a newer year. If we do, do you all have any recommendations regarding which wranglers to stay away from, engines, etc? I really appreciate your help. Thanks!

Research the 0331 head, 00/01 IIRC. Seems 04-06 had more computer problems. The auto 3 speed auto, 97 to 02, are preferred over the later O/D units. 4 cyl or 6cyl, either are pretty bullet proof albiet the 4.0 preferred. Those are a few of the most talked about items on TJ's.

If you mean a TJ newer than 98, I think the '03 is recommended the most.
Might depend on whether you want an automatic or not.
I like my '06, but some prefer the '04 due to some changes in '05.
Rust is a bigger issue than model differences.

You may need to travel to get a TJ. Think non-rust states like TX, OK, AZ, CA. I’m not too interested in newer wranglers, but if I had to I’d look at 2-door JL automatic’s.
