Need suggestions on 42RLE replacement transmission

So you’re comparing adding a shift kit to milling the internals to add additional friction disks, along with the other things ATS does to beef up their trannys? I ran my ATS 42RLE hard behind a 300 hp / 400 torque supercharged I6 - the stock 42RLE will not hold up to that. I know because I smoked the stock tranny behind that engine - which is why I went with ATS.

My current ATS 545RFE is built to take 700hp. They know what they are doing. As I said in my post, it wasn’t cheap but worth spending the money in my opinion.
I have went through 2 42RLE's. First at 102,000 and this one at 187,000. I have a small 3 1/2" lift and 34" tires. Commute to work and take it hunting. They just aren't built for mods. I am going to spend the money and try the ATS this time and an extra cooler in parallel. Both times I blew it I had just towed a trailer at about 2K pounds. Broke the drum both times. My fault, the guy who rebuilt my transmission last time told me not to tow anything with it. Said the transmission is just a minivan transmission.

I'm going with what Westminster transmission told Savvy when they built the transmission for their rig many years back and not what you or ATS says, that's right. The stock 42RLE is fine and those upgrades are a waste of money. Your talk of 400 hp this and 700 hp that is just that, talk that has absolutely nothing to do with a stock replacement 42RLE.

Call Dave @ OC Transmissions in Costa Mesa 714-546-9900.

They are an Honest Shop and do things the right way.

I have trailered cars from AZ to have them rebuild transmissions.

The OP was asking if there was anything that could be done to beef up the 42, and that was the basis for my response. I certainly agree with you in that the cost effectiveness for a given rig is a different question.
