Hi

I recently joined the forum and posted a couple of messages on the UK Regional forum before I noiced this forum, apologies as I probably should have posted an introduction first.

I live in the UK and have owned my TJ for about five years now, but have only driven it on road and very, very light tracks with no modification. The plan was always to do some proper offroading, but it just never happened. However, while the last year may have been pretty grim it has made me think that I need to get on and do some of the things I said I would but never have, life is too short and all that. Which means 2021 is the year I will be sorting my TJ and getting it off road!

My TJ is a 2002 4.0l Grizzly edition, with 42k miles. It is completely stock apart from some slightly nobbly tyres I put on it. The car has only had three owners and I believe it has always been an occassional drive and has been pretty well looked after - at some point somebody had new number plates put on it which they sourced from their local Bentley dealership, which probably says a lot. Having looked at a few threads on this site already I have checked underneath and pulled up the build sheet, so I know it has a Dana 44 in the back and a 30 in the front, which I believe is a reasonable starting point.

I am afraid I will have lots of questions for the forum going forward, so thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forum! Questions are always welcome here. It sounds like you have a nice TJ on your hands. Post up some pics when you can

Hello UKTJ
Off roading over here in the U.K. is much different to that experienced by our cousins in the U.S.A. and a stock TJ will do far more than you might think.
Mine is a 2002 Sahara Auto and it will go most places that my later more "driver aided" Land Rover Defender will, and it brings a grin to my face rather than the smile that the Defender brings.
Try taking a "tag along tour", preferably led by a non Land Rover type (for some reason they tend to look down on Jeeps).
I often go along with https://trailsandtracks.co.uk/ George now leads with a Toyota Land Cruiser having been a Land Rover owner for years. There are bound to be others in your area.
Joining the Green Lane Association https://www.glass-uk.org/other-info/public-discounts.html will give you access to information on legally drivable lanes in your area and their current status.
Lastly the practical advice from this forum is impressive and given, freely, by people who really know their Jeeps.
Have fun :)

That's really helpful and thanks very much for the links!

Welcome to the forum!

The only thing that belongs in those regional sub-forums is discussions that pertain to where you live. For instance, if you were looking for a local mechanic or planning a local wheeling trip, you'd post it there.

General questions about your TJ however belong in the TJ General Discussion. That is where you'll get the most responses and your threads will garner the most attention. Stuff sort of gets lost in the regional sub-forums unless people are specifically looking for local stuff.

Thanks Chris, luckily I have not messed up as the only post was about local TJ specialist, phew.

I have yet to do any more than scratch the surface but this forum really does appear to be an incredible resource and community! I can tell already that there is going to be one big frustration (which I guess I share with others from the UK), much of the parts you discuss are probably not available in the UK. For example, I have read some of the incredible thread you created on lifts for beginners, but as far as I can see Currie parts are not available in the UK. Oh, and the cost of some things over hear versus on your side of the pond - so just try not to laugh if I start to quote UK prces for parts in the future!

You're welcome! I just wanted to clarify since sometimes people get confused about where to post.

This forum has been around since October 2015, but I've done my best to organize it in such a way that it's easy to use and full of great resources and other information for TJ owners.

Getting things in the UK is going to be much more difficult, yes. Most of the good companies that produce parts for our TJs (i.e. lift kits) are located here in the U.S.

However, I would expect that if you are willing to pay much higher costs, you could get things exported through a broker or however that works. Currie and Savvy you'll find are top shelf parts and arguably the best. GenRight is another one of those as well.

I guess that's the benefit to living in the U.S. as far as Jeeps go. Now if we want to talk about British cars, I'm sure you guys are much better off getting stuff for them over there in the UK

At the moment the TJ is in our garage with about 4 tonnes of gravel blocking her exit, and the only picture I can find is this one. This is a couple of years back, the red Grand Cherokee is my wife's daily drive, but the old green Grand Cherokee has now been replaced by an L200 pick-up which I use daily.
