New ticking noise just from changing the oil on JK?

Our 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport 4WD was running well, but time came for maintenance.

All we did was change the oil and oil filter. Since then the valve tappets (or the lifters) are making noise, a slight ticaticaticatica noise. How do we figure out where it comes from?

*Copied from Popular Mechanics (good, basic reference for stuff like this)...
Whenever loud ticking is involved, the most likely source is the valvetrain, but the reason for that ticking isnt always clear. Most cars use hydraulic valve lifters that rely on oil pressure to maintain a tight clearance between the camshaft and rocker arm. If the pressure isnt right, there is play between the lifters and the rest of the valvetrain, which causes a noticeable tap. Its possible that cold oil at startup may help pump up the lifters, but at normal temperatures the viscosity drops, and may be too thin to correctly work the lifters. As the oil breaks down after a few thousand miles it thickens, which eliminates the noise.

Mechanical issues may also be the cause. Double-check that youre using the correct filter, and if you're not, consider switching to the manufacturer-supplied part. The flow rate through a generic filter could be incorrect, creating insufficient engine oil pressure. The worst-case scenario is that your oil pump is slowly dying and you need a replacement. I hate to say it, but driving the vehicle this way for 20,000 miles hasnt done the engine any favors. Get thee to a mechanic as soon as possible for proper diagnosis and remediation.

Did you notice a drop in oil pressure?
Did you switch to a thinner viscosity?
If you changed to a thinner oil for winter drivng, that could be a possibility.

Change of viscosity, I would flush it with an engine oil flush. Then go with the royal purple engine oil 5w30 and maybe some off the shelf additive for lifter noise. Drive it for an hour or so and see what changes.

In 2012 Chrysler switched to the new 3.6 L Pentastar engine. 2012 had head issues which tend to to give the ticking noise. The issue was supposed to be fixed but there are still issues on later models too. We had a 2014 JKU and the same thing happened after a service (Oil change) it started t develop the ticking. After it got louder and more frequent I took it in for warranty repair. The dealer stated they replace the cams, lifters and valves for the driver side head. Everything was good until several months later when the ticking came back. They rebuilt the head again and it was good for 6 months but we traded it in for a Ram 1500 in July.
