I've been in to MUD trucks in the past, WAY before I moved to Texas, but I've never been rock crawling..

Friend had a 1999 TJ for sale CHEAP ($500) been sitting 7 years with a bad starter. He stripped out the Etorx bolts and then let her sit.

Unfortunately, it's a 2.5 Liter 5 speed , but has AC .. Ran when he parked it ... LOL

Thinking of a low budget build just to see if I'll get in to the "Jeep" thing .

Other half of me wants to gut it, throw some 1 ton axles under it and a healthy big block like my old days

From what I can tell, it has some 2" coil spacers...

Would just a set of 31x10.5 15's on the stock rims be a decent starting point of am I wasting my time and will be disappointed in it's capabilities ?

Just roughly pricing stuff.. Looks like a $4500 investment to run some lockers and reliably 35's... Hmmmm Thoughts ?

Thanks !

Of course a Jeep like that could be capable. Just takes some money and work.

Would take a lot more parts to run 35’s than that list. Need at least 4.5” lift. You don’t want a hack n tap. You don’t want Chromoly shafts for a Dana 35 because the axles ride on the bearings and Chromoly’s are not hardened for that. 1541H is your friend. Need a super 35 to run 35’s reliably. Rear locker should be full case. Yesterday’s prices, so figure in Covid nonsense.
