New to me Jeep: Should I ditch the 35s?

this is what 33s look like on a 3" lift and 1 1/4" body lift. This old TJ keeps up with the kids quite well.

I run 31's on my stock ravine rims, 15". I used JK springs up front, and a 3/4" leveler in the rear. Had to slightly adjust the turning bump stop, as the tire would rub the front sway bar on turns. Street driven LJ. Seems to fill the wheel wells fine, but that's just my opinion.

It might be good to drop to 33”. Around here on logging roads they put bumps across them. I am not sure why, I assume to help with drainage. I am not sure if they do that everywhere, but sometimes due to the size they can cause some decent flex. Here is a pic of mine on 33” with a 3” lift. They are only 10.5” but if wider you can see they would hit the flares. This was rock crawling, just wanted to give visual. Nice looking Jeep.

Hey guys....been about 10 years since I've owned a jeep. Getting old enough its time to switch from 2 wheels to 4. picked up this 97 tj 4.0, 5speed. lot of miles )164k. no rust of frame, some on tub on body mounts... jeep has been rebuilt, no frame damage (supposedly), i dont really care i picked it up for $5k. just want something to tool around in, dirt roads, maybe a few light 4x4 trails but not after a crawler or ridiculous axle travel etc. etc. Jeep has a 4:10 rear end, Other than being loud, runs really well down the highway (was very suprised)...my question is this. Measuring the coils, it appears to have a 2.5 in lift, no body lift, has 4 adjustable links other wise no mods that i can tell. Seems to run around just fine with these 35in tires, but i continue to see on multiple threads how 35's are a no no with out proper MAJOR mods.....should i ditch them pretty quick or am ok for doing what i wanna do with this jeep?

I think keep the 2.5” lift, sell the 35’s, and get 32’s.

35’s need 5” total lift and 32’s need 2.5”. There are also a lot of supporting mods that 35’s need to be right. Every mod not done is a compromise and compromises add up to poor handling and ride quality.

I would have suggested a small 1.25” body lift if your torque boxes and body mount pucks were in good shape, but they need to be fixed first either way. With an additional 1.25” you could run 33’s.

Post some pics of your suspension and bumpstops.measure your springs installed height too.

I would definitely go with a 31-33 on 15x8 wheels.

I know it is subjective but I think 2" lift and 31s is sharp on a tj.

I absolutely will when I get back home to jeep. Thanks!!!

I like this idea

I do like the 10.5 width better. Looks like you have quite a bit of flex

First picture is a OME 2.5 inch lift with Falken at4w 255/85r16 which is 33.1 x 10.3 .
Second picture is about 1.5 inch front lift and 1 inch spacer with stock rear springs and same tires . My current setup is Front OME springs with 1 inch spacer and stock rear springs with 2 inch spacer , sits pretty level .

It is decent I guess. I never measured it. The sway bar links were off. I was debating on the 10.5 or 12.5. My JKU has 32” on it and I measured the width which was right around 10” and I didn’t have any complaints so decided on the 10.5”. The 12.5” probably give a little better traction especially with snow since there is more surface area. I like the tires under the fenders and not sticking out a lot, not sure why. Bright side is they are a little lighter too
