Thought I'd share my first very rough proof of concept for a RAM mount.
I've wanted a cell phone mount for a while, but I hate hate hate the idea of cutting or drilling into nearly flawless interior.
The two screws that hold the center bezel on the top are secure enough for some light usage it seems. Vibration is minimal, but not zero. Resting the phone on the bezel reduces it even more. Not a problem in my first drive up my 1/4 mile washboard driveway.
It's just a thin metal plate scrap I had lying around. You could go a tiny bit thicker I think and still have the defroster vent cover snap back in place.
Anyways. I spend far too long searching through photos of mounts and didn't find anything I liked that wasn't cutting or drilling or permentantly gluing something to the interior.
I'll route a power cable later.
Anyways, thought I'd share.

Very rough version. I'll make a new one after I drive around for a while with this one and see it if needs any changes.

Vent cover fits, no cutting.
I just got this mount off eBay. It is made in America super locked in doesn’t move at all. 3 second install. I have magnet mounts in all my cars makes it super easy. Strong magnets my phone doesn’t move. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-5...0001&campid=5337789113&icep_item=163976399490

I have a phone mount location that I really like but I am stealing this idea!To @707kevin:
I like your mounting plate idea - simple and elegant.
In fact, I like your idea so much that I'm going to base a Garmin GPS dash mount on it.
I would guess it would the magnets are really strongWould that support an 8 inch tablet?

Oh no the bracket is super sturdy. It's locked in and isn't going anywhere. It hooks into your trim on the front and backI meant just the bracket. It looks like it might flop up and down with to much weight.
