Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ radiator

California NorCal Jeep adventures!

Speaking of ARB's. I have a JK Dana 30 locker if any of you have JK buddies. It's the factory gear ratio 3.21's I believe, so not so popular.

We got photos of the epic lunch location!

Had a great time, looking forward to the next one. Thanks @Plumber1 for being Trail Boss and organizing the trip.
I said I would post some past pictures when the water crossings were higher a few years ago in my YJ on 33's

Looks awesome. I need to get that tummy tuck done and some rock sliders!
That white jeep in your video is awfully Purddy 😂

By the way something dawned on me when following you. Since you have corner armor you don’t actually need the Morryde reinforcement plate. Not that it matters I just noticed that.

You maybe right but they are Alum if that makes a difference. That might be the only thing over built on my TJ 🤔

Mine are aluminum also and Blaine didn’t seem to think there would ever be a problem.

yours has the internal support right?

I'm making the switch to Ham since the reception on the CB seems to be garbage each time we go out. I'll get a handheld so I can still communicate with the few hold outs but I'm done with the hard mounted unit.

Free to a good home. I figured I'd give you guys first dibs. @Thunderhead has right to first refusal since nobody can hear him on his setup.

Uniden pro 520xl, firestick 2 and 3ft antennae, cb mount.

Wow very generous of you for someone needing a CB this a very good setup.

I am also considering getting my Ham license

I am studying for mine now. Already ordered my Radio. Hoping to take the test in the next couple weeks. I won’t be hard mounting a CB in my either.

What radio did you order, there seams to be a ton on the market ?
I can't speak for Mike since we have different radio choices but originally I was going to go with the yaesu ftm-400xdr like indy has but ended up canceling it since I was worried about having something that nice sitting in the jeep. I ended up getting the ic-4100 because with an additional chip I'll have a bluetooth function and SHOULD be able to text the wife using the radio from the trail and it had a detachable face. As far as the mounts, cable, and antennas go Mike and I have identical set ups.

I went with a kenwood TM-V71A because I wanted a detachable face and other than that wanting a somewhat simple interface.

I am super noob at this and @Mr. Bills has been super helpful in guiding me through the process.

He responded in this thread with a great amount of information for me.

@Alex01 went a different route than me for different reasons so maybe he will chime in.

But here is where I am at with it.

First thing I think is to decide is if you need a detachable face or not. If you don’t that gives more options.

Here is a super simple breakdown the way I see it.

There are basically three tiers for mobile setups.

level 1 Single Band
These only offer one band and if you just want to treat it like a super powered CB these are great. However I was not able to find any with a detachable face.

Level 2 Dual Band
These offer two bands which gives you access to more repeaters etc. Many of these are available with a detachable face if it’s a feature you want. Many of these are basically two radios in one. This allows you to to cool stuff like monitor the repeater on the rubicon trail while having a separate channel for just your group at the same time.

Level 3 APRS/GPS/Other fancy stuff
Sky seems to be the limit on this. You can text message. Find yourself on maps. I think one even gave you the ability to send photos.

You also need to get a correct antenna if you decide to go Dual or Single Band.

Disclaimer: I learned this on the internet all in like the last 2 days so could be completely wrong. :-)
