Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ engine mounts

Nothing I need, everything I want (2005 TJR, impact orange)

I looked at looked and I could not find a setup I liked for a smartphone mount. Primary use for me would be GPS navigation. There was one compromise or another, and usually more than one (location, design, cabling , mounting, stability...). I told Blaine about this and said that I liked the A-pillar location since your eyes scan that area automatically while driving. Blaine took all my needs into consideration and designed a mount by hand .. whipped it up in a matter of days. It is made of metal, and will be used with a magnetic RAM mount ball and socket system. The magnets are strong! Not only is super functional, but is also the best that I have seen that fits in the design language of the the TJ interior. The curves and the finish work on it is just spectacular. The USB port in that location will let us use a short USB cable to power the smartphone. No damned dangling cables!). The RAM mounts will stay in the center console till I need to use it.

I am really stoked to have this in my Jeep. Thank you for making this for me Blaine!

Man that’s clean.

Someone may ask if it is solid and stable given the long length above the two mounting screws. It is.

I was all 🤩 when he sent me the pics. What amazes me every single time is how Blaine can visualize both good looks/functionality from the very start. You can perhaps think through and see what won't look good, but it's really very hard to figure out what will seamlessly blend in. Blaine just has an innate sense for this and it's wonderful watching him create things. I feel very lucky to be in this position and having Blaine build my dream into tangible reality.

This is the view from the driver’s seat on the 5" monitor during daytime. Notice the open tailgate. For this mockup, the backup camera was taped to the top of the snubber right above the bumper and pointed roughly straight back. Later in time, Blaine will integrate the backup camera into the bumper where it belongs angled downwards, along with good dedicated backup lights installed in his usual preferred spot. Combined view from the rearview camera mirror (high mounted camera) and backup monitor (low mounted camera) will cover everything one needs to see.

The 5" monitor you see below is 800x480 ("standard definition"). The backup camera is a 1/3" CMOS image sensor that captures at 976 x 592 resolution (digital equivalent of 700 "TV scanning lines"), with a 170° viewing angle. For a backup view this is plenty sufficient is my opinion.

Thanks man that's a really neat setup.

I am very happy with the choice of components and how functionally Blaine integrated everything. It's just really beautiful work.

Test print from our designer came out great. We had to go with a different clock and seat heater switches than originally planned. Oh, I can a write an essay for the time it took to find a simple clock. We also got seat heaters from eBay that had very good looking rotary switch styled after OEM Nissan that really looked good but the heaters just sucked. Eventually went with Dorman universal seat heaters because it simply just works and we needed a smaller switch size anyways.

Notice the small flush mount button on the lower right of the clock. That's for adjusting the time. Blaine spec'd how it should be done to make it look OEM style and our designer simply nailed it on the first try. 2nd photo shows the details for that care about finer details like this.

Final print will be in ASA material. Can't wait to see this inside the Jeep.

Have you considered recessing more what all you have going on there?

When I bought the mount for the dash I'm using for mine they recessed the display for a cleaner look.

Not a cleaner look, a look that you like and not one that I happen to like. And while I appreciate everyone has sensibilities that need to be satisfied, there is nothing about that dash, display or any other aspect of it that I would ever use. I don't think less of you for doing it, I just never will. May as well get a fucking Apple watch, and strap it to a cyclist's mirror on your helmet.

I wasn't expecting you to use the dash, you have no need to do it. That pic was easier for me to locate than a switch pro version. Just throwing the idea out there to see if you had considered it. But, now I had to go look for one. To each their own, different strokes and all.

It was a deliberate decision not to have that flush recessed look. Not all the components we had carefully selected could be mounted that way, and nothing in the OEM TJ dash had that look either.

I am super happy with how Blaine designed it and how our designer executed that vision.

Looking forward to seeing it all come together.

It's nice to see the final finished piece inside the Jeep. I am really pleased with how this project turned out, including the super functional phone mount (not visible in this pic) near the A-pillar.

This is what you see from the driver's seat. Careful eyes will notice how Blaine angled the trans temp gauge a little bit towards the driver's seat.

A more head-on close-up.

Blaine is working on cleanly integrating the SSV amp and the USB power supplies at the back.

And like magic .. the amp and the USB power supplies have their dedicated spaces.

The amp is in the bottom compartment. The USB power supplies (yes, plural) are on the top. One dedicated for the phone mount (on the right side, with the cable plugged in already and fed through the dash) and the one on the left side for the dual USB ports in the center console center. The power supplies are made by a very good company in Florida who properly understand USB power delivery protocols and the power rating on these is sufficient for many, many, many years into the future. There is no device I cannot charge!

Blaine made the setup such that it simply pulls out when I remove the two bigger screws you see in front sides. The two fingers at the top are anti-bounce tabs for the OEM radio. They rest gently on top of the two power supplies to slow down any movement.

I did not request it, but Blaine made sure I have drop-in spares for the clock and the Rubicrawler position indicator LEDs in case anything goes bad later in the future. Who else does goes to this level of detail !
