Almost done rebuilding the np231 transfer case but cannot find the "rear bearing ID retaining ring" or "rear slinger locating ring" anywhere available online or at autoparts stores.

The rebuild kit I purchased came with a traditional snap ring that fits on the "rear slinger locating ring" notch but i think it needs to be the retaining ring style so it doesn't damage the rear seal on the output shaft. Also, the original rings are .077" whereas the new one is .093". I chose not to run a SYE since my lift is <2" and because it worked great for the last 200k miles.

According to the TJ parts list /FSM, the part numbers are 4798116 and J8134488 (although they look identical). The parts are no longer available through the various mopar sites. With the old retaining rings being bent from disassembly I cant get a good measurement on them.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the retaining rings or know of a better source for the parts? Appreciate the help!

Give Advance Adapters a call. I always talk to Steve Roberts there, as he's pretty knowledgeable. They use a lot of New Process parts in the Atlas, and perhaps they'll have those rings...

Thank you. Ill give them a call. I may give mcmaster carr a try as well to find the retaining ring. Otherwise a SYE may be the only option...and i wasn't planning on changing the rear drive shaft.
