What year Jeep and what engine? How many miles?

+1 to what Jerry said about what the reading is. The spec for minimum oil pressure at hot idle on a 4.0L is 12 psi.

I've never seen a TJ oil pressure gauge that only said L or H. What year is your TJ?
I know the later ones (2003-2006) had the L to H oil pressure gauge, similar to the later year Jeep WJs. It was basically just a pressure switch that made the gauge stay vaguely in the middle of the range when there was good oil pressure. This was due to the many complaints about the "real" oil pressure gauges fluctuating back and forth. Even though the fluctuation is normal customers still complained. The earlier TJs like my 1998 and I believe 1997-2002 had an actual oil pressure gauge with 0-80 PSI.
