OK, this is the last audio upgrade I'm going to do

I hear you about the sound deadening, like I always say if you want great sound in a TJ, get a great pair of closed back headphones....and even then....
I will let you know what I think, it is literally in the mail. On the bright side, I am already working on the Tj this morn, taking out the carpet, and figuring out where to make my new run, nice and clean. Figure on putting the amp behind the dash. Do I need a glove box? I could transform it into an opening Amp box. Soldering up a whole new relay panel for cleanliness and future renovations, and to tidy everything up. Got my dual battery kit coming also. Too many ideas, not enough time. Why my wife still likes me, WHY? Getting rid of the Glove box? Where will we put anything? That is the difference, my anything is a hideaway amp for a vehicle that will always sound like shit....go figure.
Yes I DO like great sound and quality stuff. There are a couple double din dashes that are available, and you know everything behind it is easily modified so I said why not? I think the real sleeper here is going to be the audio control line level amp btwn the Alpine head unit and the Amp though. For Less than 2bills I think it is going to make a 4bill difference. Why do we do this to ourselves? I am waxing poetically about getting great sound in a TJ. I am not right in the brain. Great sound is NEVER going to happen.

Well, this forum is going to be a bad influence on you, in a good way though! You have an awesome dual battery set-up coming your way, which one did you go for? While doing that you should think about upgrading all of your OEM battery wires, just because...Link below to a complete set-up that you can order.

Getting rid of that glove box is great idea, do you really need it, what do you keep in there? I have a few things that I keep in there, but if you don't use that is a great idea to place the amps in there, and you can build a lock case so only you have access to the amps. I currently have two amps in the dash under the steering column, but the glove box is a great idea.

Once you get that audio set-up post some pics.

OK, I got the Kicker amp installed last night. What a freaking pain in the ass. Installing it was easy, but I kept getting an error when trying to run the calibration. It was an error for the ambient noise being too high. I tried running it at least 25 times. The only thing that finally worked was running the pink noise needed for it to tune, through my phone connected directly to the amp. I have no idea why. I had already requested a return from Amazon because it seemed defective, before I finally tried that.

Well, anyway it finally ran and sounds good. The amp is pretty powerful as the system is pretty loud. I wasn't sure if 45w x4 would be.

I posted a video on youtube. Audio quality isn't outstanding, but decent. It does sound cleaner and less "thick" in the bass than the video, but just to give an idea of how well those Tang Band modules and Dayton woofers work, I recorded this. The power sub is on as well.

Just a quick note, since I didn't clarify this, the Peerless woofers I mentioned at the start of the thread, are not in there. I don't even own them yet, it is just an idea. I probably will get them and try it though.

Going off memory there were three screws and I believe it attached to the sun visor, but need to be in the Jeep to confirm.

That’s correct. There’s also a black plastic Xmas tree fastener coming in from the top.

Interesting. I'm sure the recording and playing back on my phone doesn't do it justice. One of these years i plan to head down a tang band/Dayton path. Or move the Morel and alpine pdx from my scion to the jeep. Just not sure where to put it all. The eclipse hu in my scion is super nice, but the bluetooth is outdated. Won't connect to my s7.

Right now i have bigger problems. I have 4 cars
72 c10, unregistered sinced 94 and doesn't run.
2005 scion xb about to die, threw a belt on my wife this afternoon.
Another 2005 scion xb, battery dead (ish) because i don't drive it.
98 tj needs an alternator.

I guess tomorrow will be spent trying to get us to work Monday

You definitely want to watch the video on a desk top with decent speakers to get a more accurate presentation of the actual sound. A phone will sound...well like a phone, no bass and tinny.

I had a few Alpine PDX amps many years ago, but I ended up selling them before I ever even used them. Morel makes some nice speakers.

The morel/alpine pdx combo was great, even with the jbl amp and 2 10s i won in a raffle. That setup was ears hurting but no distortion. I'll probably move the morel and alpine stuff to the tj eventually.

The PDX amps, while pretty small in their day, are actually pretty big for a TJ. The Morel speakers, depending on what they are and what size could work.

Most people don't even think about it, but not all speakers work in every application, just because they fit. I chose the Dayton's for the dash because the QTS was high and they work well in large enclosures, or infinite baffle setups, more along the lines of my sealed front baffle dash setup which is kind of infinite baffle. They wouldn't work well at all in the smallish sealed enclosures of the sound bar, but the Peerless woofers should as they are designed for small sealed or ported enclosures, but the Peerless would not be good in the dash.

Most car speakers are designed for large leaky enclosures like doors or a trunk. They work fine in the dash (if the baffle is sealed), but not too well in the sound bar because the airspace is limited. That's why I don't recommend people get those tiny sealed pods for the dash. Most speakers put in them, don't want to be in there, and perform poorly.

I'll get around to it eventually. I know the pdx is bigger than what i can probably get now, but i already have it. One of these days iI'll start playing with tj audio. Just can't do it yet.

How do they attach? Are the a-pillars different on the 03+ to be able to attach them?

Have these in my '05, and I'm actually interested in swapping to the older style. Pretty sure it is a direct swap on the sides, but these newer panels run up and across the top of the windshield as well. I don't know if my newer windshield frame has additional holes for clips across the top. You may need to do some drilling, but I'd consider swapping if you're serious.

Bad influence indeed, as if I need any more. I am building all new battery wires, and creating a couple more relay boxes so I can keep EVERYTHING orderly and clean. I am going with the smittybuilt dual battery tray. The TJ is the ultimate lesson on space economy theory, every kid should have to build one in high school, real lessons learned. Thanks for the heads up and kind words, helpful indeed, and I will post soon.
