Old stale gas in tank

I have a 2000 TJ that's getting a new heart after sitting for a couple years. My question/concern is the fuel in the tank whether to trust it or get rid of it. How does one drain the fuel from the tank is there a drain haven't found one yet or do I just turn the key on and catch it at the fuel line in engine bay? I have no idea how much gas is in it yet but it does smell like today's gas. Not worried with the quantity of fuel there but what may happen to fuel pump running with no back pressure. Not worried about fuel filter in line as that will be changed after I do something with fuel. Thanks again for the advice.

I wouldn't trust it. I probably also wouldn't trust the fuel pump.

I'd probably drop the tank, clean everything out...hose out the fuel and evap lines and hoses with brake cleaner, and reassembled with a fresh pump... maybe new evap lines and plastic elbows.

You could test the pump and drain the gas as the same time... disconnect the fuel line above the rear axle, disconnect the electrical connector...use a power probe...not sure which pin powers the pump but I could figure it out pretty quickly using the FSM in the resources section. Power up the pump and use it to drain the tank.

Very good food for thought regarding powering up the pump and using that to drain the tank. I think I'll go that way right now for the sake of time as this ole Girl's been in the shop to long and the wife really wants to drive it rather than the YJ. Very true about the YJ's running on almost anything including poor fuel. This thing starts and runs on the first crank. Thank you for the insights.
