OME spring options

Been looking and pondering OME spring options. I'm most likely going to use the 2996 rear springs in the LJ. It's already heavier than a TJ, will have a hard top, and the typical 'overland' stuff - fridge, battery, water, recovery gear, camping stuff etc...enough for a couple nights.

But the front is what I'm debating mostly. My plan is to just stick with the OEM bumper, a winch mount and winch. Which would put added weight around 85 pounds. Much lighter than if I were to have purchased the other bumper which was 100 pounds just by itself. Anyway, I'm not sure if with 85 pounds it warrants the longer 2933 springs, or the standard 2932 springs. Both springs are the same OEM spring rate (according to ARB who doesnt even know what they have themselves apparently), and the 2933's are 0.59" longer than the standard 2932's. I guess the real question is if I need the front to sag a little to not have the full 2.5" of lift and to make it even with the rear when loaded down. I also plan to tow with this in the future, putting additional weight on the rear.

So who can say with experience what the 2932's do with a winch mount and winch?

I bought the 2932 front springs for my LJ, with stock front bumper and no winch. THEY ONLY GAVE ME 1" OF LIFT. I had to add a 1" spacer. I should have bought the 2933 front springs. These were along with the 2942 springs in the rear, which gave a 2" lift.

Thats weird. Only 1" lift up front all stock? did you have spacers in there before that got removed? Most reviews I have been reading say OME springs usually net 2.5" even though they are advertised at just 2". I'll for sure keep this in mind though, that would be a little irritating.

No previous spacers. And the lift is actual installed spring measurement at ride height, 13" instead of the stock 12". I was surprised that the front of the LJ is that much heavier than the front of a TJ. Mine has a hard top, but nothing else heavy.

My experience with the 2933 front on a basically stock LJ (hardtop, stock bumper, no armor or winch) was less than 2 inches of lift. I went with the 2934 and got 3.5 inches of lift. The 2933 with a small spacer will probably get you where you need to be.

Thats really weird. Even with the extended length the LJ shouldn't have that much added weight pushing down on the front springs. Did you ever talk with ARB about it?

Interesting, thats 2 now saying less than 2" of lift. When did you all do these springs? I dont think 2934's are an option anymore. They only have 3 options for up front, 2932, 2933, and 2939 (which is a 4" spring).

This is ours when I put OME 2 inch springs all around .
I removed the OME rear springs and reinstalled the factory rear springs with a 1 inch spacer .
That was 11 years ago . I've changed it some since then .

Bottom picture is OME springs all around .

I ran an ZJ/LJ OME 2.5" lift on my LJ. I used the ZJ 2934 spring in the front and the 2949 spring in the rear. With a Garvin front bumper that weighed about 50lbs, a steel winch plate and a m8000 winch the front sat almost exactly at 2.5" of lift. With the hardtop on and a Warn rear bumper/tire carrier the rear was also right at 2.5" of lift. It also had 92# sliders installed.
The 2934's are still available.

933's gave my tj 2" of lift with a winch, steel fenders, sliders and corner armor.

942's gave 1" lift.

I know it isn't an lj but it's a heavy rig with steel armor

Looks like those have a 160 spring rate and are just over 1" longer than the 2932's, but only 0.59" longer than the 2933s

That's helpful - turns out I'm going to have to put OME springs on my TJ as well. The crown OEM springs are already sagging in the rear with only the hardtop.... :-/

Keep in mind she is about as heavy as tj's get. That's a lot of 1/4" steel!

So its interesting to me different people have been experiencing different results

I have 2932 front with 1 inch spacer . Fronts have been on 11 years . I added the 1 inch spacer when I put the rear OME springs in recently .

Rear springs are 2949 .

I bought my lift 11 years ago .
Front springs say 932
Rear springs say 949

Tires are 33 inches tall.

No, I didn't talk with ARB, I just decided that I should have bought the longer springs.

It surprises me that 97' 4 Popper didn't even get 2" of lift with the 2933s.

I did mine in 2021. It seems that the 2934s are out of stock everywhere, but ARB still has a webpage for them. And Summit guesses an estimated ship date about 5 or 6 weeks out. Maybe they're just temporarily out.

If you need spacers, I like StreetRays. Solid aluminum, and available in 1", 1.5", and 2" (I think). And you can turn them down on a lathe to make different thickness leveling spacers. They used to have their own website, but now it redirects to eBay where things are harder to find.

So then GC springs also fit TJ/LJ? I have talked with 3 different people at ARB because their website and catalog are inconsistent. All 3 of them, at the end of a 15 minute conversation, said to follow the catalog and hung up. I think all the institutional knowledge for OME springs has been long gone and none of them were interested in verifying the listed specs or correcting the inconsistencies.

I would have to use bolt on spacers if needed. I'm expecting the front to sag a little with the winch, which would give the rear some rake - I like rake, that way when loaded its even. But hoping to not need any spacers at all. That said I do have 3/4" spacers in the TJ currently.

Only foolproof way to know what you'll get is to have everyone weigh the front and rear of their rigs?

I wonder if something in their manufacturing caused a change. I noticed some really old references to numbers don't match to any current production of components. Didn't OME used to be their own company and was acquired by ARB at some point?

The ZJ Grand Cherokee front springs fit the TJ's. Here's a picture of the stock springs side by side.
If you want someone with TJ and OME knowledge call and order from Dirk at DPG Offroad. Just avoid the OME shocks as they are typically considered to stiff.
