On this episode of how much rust is too much rust

Should be a law preventing people in the salt belts from owning TJs and classic cars and trucks. Totally unfair and unamerican but they have been f$%ing up things for everyone else for decades and decades. ;)

Well, we all now know this guy likes government.
yup i’m in the plains, about 15 miles from Aurora. have not made it to a knew meet up yet

It's the "crew" or "krew" ;) I'd love to meet up some time and talk about your r2.8 if you're up for it, just DM me if you are :)

I'm usually the first one to defend rust belt TJs and frames that can be salvaged with Safe T Caps... but even I'll admit this one is a horror show.

Wrong! Only eastern Canadian vehicles end up looking like this. Western Canadian vehicles have no such problems.

Southern Ontario vehicles can run into some real rust issues. I've seen ones like in the original post, but they are usually ones that have been sitting in a field for some time. A lot depends on how they were maintained of course and how much winter use they saw. I have two late 1980s Jeeps, a Cherokee and a Comanche, that are about 98% rust free. The 2% will be easy to deal with. Both were second or third vehicles for the previous owners and didn't see a lot of winter use. They're out there ... but it takes some looking. Unlike the previous owners, I do drive them through the winter ... as I do with my LJ.

Send it...for science...wheel the crap out if it and video the results for your channel. We all know you can roll a Jeep when you want to!

This was the pic from their website, so it had potential. I wanted to go for the doors, top, rear axle, tranny, etc.

Perhaps the rear wheels floating in the air should have a warning sign :)

I am amazed that thing has not crumbled under its own weight. The ratchet straps holding everything together have been there for a while from the looks of it.

How much are the axles going for out there? I'm seeing them all over the place for Dana 30/35's in my neck of the woods (MA) and I'm not sure what a good price is. Thanks

Axles that are "loaded" go for about $100. I grab Dana 44's and then flip them for $1000. Or re-gear and add lockers etc.

Thank you for the response.

A quick search in my area shows Dana 30/4.10 avg. $550, Dana 35/4.10 avg. $800-1100. Dana 44/4.10 avg. 2k. I could probably fly out rent a uhaul and drive back east for less money and they would probably be less rust on them to.

Thought it might be easier to buy a set of 4.10 axles and go through them and clean and paint them over the winter in my basement since I can't do anything outside right now then just swap them in. Going to have to think this over again
