So Dynatrac, who now has the JL product planner from FCA on their payroll and the guys from Peterson’s 4 Wheel and Off Road magazine built a overland JL in 8 days.

Started as a 2018 JL(U?)4 door sport. 3.6 w/ 8speed auto. Bone stock.

Then used Mopar high top fenders, Evo 4 inch overland lift kit with adjustable front and rear control arms, Fox shocks, 42 inch Maxxis Trepadors, Method bead locks, a Dynatrac Pro Rock 80 rear axle and a Dynatrac XD60 front axle with their 1550 wheels ends.

What is really cool (subjective I know) is they filled in the rear doors and Bestop built them a custom top for it. Making it a long wheel base JL 2 door.

Ive mentioned it before. The 4 door JK with the rear doors filled looks much better IMO.

This Jeep JL was designed to overland. It hits the trails hard, yet has the drivability to hit the road too.
Roast away I guess...

Probably concerned about liability. That's a lot of power for the frame. Buddy of mine has a CJ-5 with a 360. Maybe 250 ish horsepower. It's crazy to drive. Fun, but you gotta be paying attention. I'd imagine a TJ with a 300 HP 5.3 or 5.7 would be the same.

Now a big, heavy unlimited... that's a whole different matter. Problem is, soccer moms don't generally care about engine size.

I had a 74 cj5 that had a factory 304 in it. It was narrower and shorter than a JK. I think they could put a mild V8 at least something more powerful than the sack of crap they put in there now.

The CJ5 and TJ frames are very very different as well as the suspension in each of them. The TJ frame would be a lot stronger.

Thinking more into it, if a manufacturer offered a V8 from the showroom it would have the necessary safety and build features to support the power and torque. They wouldnt offer it blindly as an option. I belive DOT has a crash test and other safety test for each vehicle and the different options in them.
