P0431 code

My 2006 TJ Is giving an PO 431 code (means that the vehicle's control module has detected that the three-way catalytic converter is not working properly (is not as efficient as the factory is expecting). Replacing the oxygen (O2) sensors may sometimes fix the code, but in most cases the catalytic convert needs to be replaced to fix the problem. If the P0431 code is combined with other codes, try fixing the other codes first.)
has anyone had to deal with this
there are no other codes being giving

My 2006 TJ Rubicon is getting the same issue. Other information says that this does not effect the operation of the car. I will drive it for awhile to see if this goes away. Just had the bouncing speedometer fixed and this thing came up. Jeep was smogged when I bought it two weeks ago and it easily passed. Good news is that in my county,cars are not smogged anyway. I bought the car in a county where smog tests are required.

My 2006 Unlimited Rubicon had the catalyst not ready issue. I rewired it as instructed in the Chrysler TSB 25-001-07 and drove it 300 miles before it came ready. This problem all started when the battery died right before the smog check was due. After it was ready it got the P0431 code. I tightened up the pre-cat bolts to the manifold. Now to drive it and see if it gets ready without a code. Approx 63,000 mile on the vehicle. FYI - To tighten the bolts, I needed a 15mm swivel socket to reach them.

My 2006 has a similar issue. Code usually shows up after/during an extended time of idling.
Although, every time I get the code, I notice my pre-cat bolts are loose.
May or may not be related.

I just bought a 2006 and just experienced this Long idol pop-up. What is your experience with a permanent solution?

This tip helped me! I have a P0431code on my 2005 LJ and found my “pre-cat” bolts were loose… at least two (2) of them.. I’ve tightened them and now I’ll wait to see if this resolves the code.

I ended up changing out my cats with a new system from MagnaFlow. Replaced the two mini cats as well as the big one under the skid plate. Turns out, one of my mini cats had emptied itself and the remnants were forming a dam in front of the main cat.

See my recent topic on pre-cat self immolation. You can get a boroscope pretty cheap to look in through the O2 port and inspect them without removing them.
