Pentastar V6 in a TJ

Im not far from yah, im on vancouver island. the mainland trails the full widths work because have a huge buggy crowd same with the island. lots of full width guys here thankfully

fair enough. ill be happy with some 44s from a rubicon i think. my jku will get full width when the diesel goes in.

WA has been ruined by a lot of the full width people IMO... But I'm just told I'm not staying up with progress. The trails were made by Flatties and were that width.
I also don't like the look of a rig with super wide axles & the tires sticking out there... I call it the roller skate look...

i agree. there are plenty of trails here that are not full width but they dont go to far. the buggy guys thankfully create all the bypasses for the gates we have here from the foresty industry...without them we wouldnt get into those spots.

Have to ask why? I have two JKU’s. For off road the inline 6 beats out the 3.6. I guess that is just my opinion. To me the power band is too high in the 3.6. Both my LJR and JKUR have the 6sp and maybe that tweaks my opinion but in the JK I have to put in 4L to get the power (torque) I need.

My jku was "fast" but lacked torque. id have to agree with everything you said here.

the upside to the jku was the mileage on the highway, not sitting at 3000rpm at 100km/hr is nice lol.

Didn't you put wheels with a low backspacing on your narrow axles?

I am going to take a different path. I'm not going to say no to a 6 just just a V6 and not an 8 either.

The new Hurricane I6 is very intriguing. More power and torque than the stroker and most non built V8's. Probably more longevity than a stroker. Certainly a better option than trying to strap on a turbo to an existing dinosaur.

There are several variants but don't need the highest output for a TJ. They are moving those behemoth Grand Wagoneers at tremendous clips and the toned down version might be the answer.

That’s a good point actually. The new Hurricane looks good. In theory. I’m a little concerned about the twin turbos. Might be another hemi situation. Guess we will find out.

Pentastar V6 . . . Has anyone done this re-power to a TJ?
Wondering the pro's & con's of a transplant into a 5sp. TJ.
Keep your TJ 'all Jeep' . . .
Thoughts . . .

Also run a tweaked 5.9 . . . workhorse/hotrod.
Is that little V6/3.0L diesel turbo'd ?

I think there are some small 4cyl diesel engines from the European market that might work in a Jeep. I’m not knowledgable all that much outside of Jeeps though.

When designed together it has a chance but you are correct, time will tell.

One other nuance would be where is the torque produced...high or low rpm's. If the majority is produced higher in the band, poor for our jeeps.

A European TDI has 170hp and 260tq.

Similar to the I6 4L then. But with 4cyl. I wonder what the weight difference would be. And how much disparity on weight between Pentastar V6 vs the AMC i6. Im a big believer in weight reduction.

Very true. I’m hoping it’s good. But I’m not holding out too much till it’s been a few years.

Sorry for hijacking the thread a little OP.

Have you seen the TDI? It is tiny. Being diesel, the torque is low rpm. I have heard the TDI is a popular swap for some in various applications. They use the 6 TDi in the Audi A8 and it flat out scoots.

It seems like a fantastic engine to put in a Jeep. Plus they pulled a Cummins and did emissions control suppression. So that’s good for us consumers, Mo powah baby!

The easy button would be a stroked 4.0, but since we're dreaming, I would think one of the GM 2.7L Turbo Max engines with the 8-speed auto. 310 HP and 430 LB FT of torque. I have one in my Colorado ZR2. It's a pretty stout little motor.
