Pink custard in my transfer case

Thanks Guys - its my daily so bit reluctant to split the case immediately as have limited time.. however I've just checked the manual and it doesnt seem too involved... (appreciate a numpties guide if anyone has one...)
Car has definitely not been swimming - tranny and diffs all fine and unaffected - changed all fluids anyway. Its a Japanese import so probably spent most of its time on a mall somewhere chatting up female wranglers! - my guess is severe condensation over a long period of time - or the missing vent tube (where is that supposed to locate?) appreciate your guidance - not new to 4x4 but new to Tj's.....

Why split the case open?
 
Vent tube is on top and should be connected to a 5/16" / 8 mm black hose that runs up to the firewall to a vent...I'd say that's driver side next to the brake booster for me, no idea with RHD.

Cheers Guys - tried the gear oil but it didnt mix well.... no doubt it would if i did a 50/50 fill and ran it around for a while, prior to draining again.... weirdness is real - Vent tube is in place and 100% intact, - well, the bit of it i can see anyway. Can only assume its caused by condensation and that fluid has never been changed. Car is a 99 so,, quite old but not many miles
 
Hi guys, found this when attempting a fluid change..pretty tricky to get it all out. Tried warming case to thin it out, drained for hours but still there. Anyone have any brilliant ideas for flushing or do I have to split the case? If so what's involved in that please?

Put ATF in it go drive it to get it hot, drain it & repeat

I might even pull the front driveshaft and drive it in 4HI. It will take some time to get it all out. After getting most of it out I would change the transfer case fluid at oil change interval a few times. Check or replace the vent hose it may be plugged. There are two vent hoses one for the auto trans and one for the transfer case. I ran all mine up into the engine compartment
 
As mentioned a couple flushes with diesel would probably go a long ways at getting the pink sludge out.

Yes, cool. How did you find the end of the hose's - i can only see the t case one where it attaches to the case itself - did you extend them whilst doing a build or is there an easy way to get to them?

Yep - some great ideas - thats one of them - got myself all involved with pulling my house apart now so will probably run it around as it is for a bit (its now 60-70% fresh ATF/ remainder pink custard. Diesel is cheaper than ATF so i'll bear that in mind - thanks
 
How did you find the end of the hose's

Follow it with you hand and eye. If I remember right I crosses the top of the trans and has a bracket on a bellhousing bolt. A barb fitting will allow you to attach another hose to extend if you want to. Though not necessary for something that doesn't drive through creeks or deep mud

Unless you want to rebuild it just run cycles of atf through it.that way you aren't introducing more contamination in the form of stuff that doesn't belong in there.

The tcase doesn't hold much. It isn't a big expense.

I would run it in 4low after a flush or two so the gears can get new oil moving through them

I think I pulled the hose off and put a long one one and routed it up by the brake booster where I attached it to the firewall. I zip tied it loosely to the trans harness
