Plate in between frame and skid plate

I just started to see this. Is this a normal thing with later TJs or is this an aftermarket job?

Thanks for the information. Imo there should have been a small space in between the frame and the plate. Then water wouldn't get trapped in there. But we didn't design them.

You can get in there to clean and repaint when you do a raised belly skid. 🤫

The reason that is there is to help achieve the desired driveline angle- sometimes you will see bushings or washers used. I do not know the pros and cons. I do agree it would rinse out better.
