I've just found a really nice stone white MY06 Golden Eagle here in Australia. The TJ came with this small square remote. To my complete shock it unlocks and locks the doors! on a TJ. Blimmy charlie I was in shock.

On the build sheet it is referenced as "Convenience Group". Assume it's in this option in this group?

Where do I get another remote?

Are they only unlocked with the remote? No buttons inside the Jeep?

If so I have that on mine but it was all aftermarket.

No, both unlock and lock off the little pictured remote. Nothing inside Jeep.

Was this an option on MY06 Golden Eagles?

This TJ has had 3 previous owners. I only have the square remote pictured. Doesn't look Jeep. Was there a OEM power lock option on the TJ?

If so are there any pics about of the OEM remote?

There’s no OEM automatic door locks and remote that American versions offered, that I’m aware of. Never seen one on here in 6 years. Either you have an aftermarket setup or it’s a unique thing under the Australia Equipment Group or Convenience Group.

Interesting chat. Appreciate the clarity on USA TJ's fit out.

One would think though that it would be possible to find details somewhere on what is actually in/included in the Australia Equipment Group or Convenience Group?

I'm thinking mine was installed by a previous enthusiastic owner. Any ideas on where the control unit Apparition above refers to would be?

Mine has electric door locks and remote start as part of an aftermarket alarm system. The control box on mine is mounted under the steering column. Remove the trim cover and the steel plate below the steering column to access it.

My fob has an FCC ID molded into it and the number can be searched online to find information and replacements. Dunno if AUS has anything similar to the FCC here in the states.

Just follow the wires. I'd start at the fuse box as the locks will have to be wired in to a always on power source. When I had power locks installed on mine I had the control box zip tied behind the glove box. It could be anywhere behind the dash. It's location would just be at the whim of whoever installed it.

I'd start at the wires that come out of the door and follow them to the control box.

When I brought home my 04 Sahara last year, my wife said: "I thought you said the Sahara was the 'nicer' one? No power locks?"

I explained that no Jeep had power locks until the JK. She just looked at me like I was lying.

Thanks Kenneth. Great info.

LoL that's a crack up. I can relate. I brought a 2007 JK new. Can remember being amazed at the new interior...on reflection those first JK's were terribly drab. Zero style and character when compared with a TJ.

My first Jeep was a 2012 JKU with power locks and windows. Though then you have the lame connector to undo when you take the doors off + the doors weight a ton. Within the first few times taking the doors off, the plastic tab broke that held the connector together. So had to use duct tape to keep it connected. There you have the reason for no power locks. Things were simpler 20 years ago.
