I would love to get new carpet, but I'm having a hard time spending the money. Has anyone taken their carpet fully out and power washed it? I'm sure nasty dark colors would just stream down the driveway, but will washing it mess with the shape & all that?

Not done a TJ carpet...but I've done other vehicles.

Really depends on the pressure washer (don't use the zero degree tip) PSI and the condition of the carpet.

I've had more luck and made less mess using the upholstery brush on my carpet cleaner.

Well, the carpet is from 1997. If I ruin it, then I guess Ill be more motivated to buy new stuff.

Can you link to the heat shield underlayment you used?

Should not change shape, but to be certain, let it dry slowly in shade, when it is almost dry, move to full sun, and reinstall just as it's getting hot and dry.

I tried to power wash and carpet cleaner. Bought me another season before I went to Bedrug and have been very happy.

I did that right after I bought my '97 about 5 years ago and was happy with the result. Got the smell out and most of the stains.

Done it to several vehicles. Kinda ruined one...not ruined but badly mis-shapen.

Got to hang it up on a fence or some sort of support vertically. Flat in the driveway will distort the shape. Not to mention when washing gravity is your friend.

Now, as long as you have the seats out, take the hose and a scrub brush to them. In my work truck this is an annual event. I use a very healthy dose of Dawn in a bucket. I attach a 3 inch scrub brush to my drill and have at it. When scrubbed, I flood it with the hose and let it drip dry. Takes about 2 days to dry if you use the shop vac to get most of the water off.

I do it all the time with the TJ carpet and seats and area rugs.
Never any issues as long as I have a couple nice warm days to let them dry.

I have not done my TJ but I’ve done my YJ a few times. I clamp my carpet pieces to plywood this holds them in place and by leaving them vertical in the sun the dry faster. While the carpet is out I power-wash the inside also. I also us 409 to brake down grease and dirt.

Taking the carpet in/out is less than 10 minute job, at least on my 05. Rarely do I bother with the windows in my soft top, so, regularly pull the floor carpets out to dry. Never had a negative effect that I've noticed. The factory carpet seems quite robust and washing them is a non-issue.

Yes, pressure washing worked well for me. I also used this in the past. https://www.duplicolor.com/product/vinyl-and-fabric-coating/ The paint will wear faster than carpet fades, but for the cost it's a good option for a rehab.
