Given: I've never pulled a part from a salvage yard.

If I found a suitable TJ and wanted to pull the axles:

1. Recommended tools?
2. Assuming Dana 30/Dana 35, any parts beyond the axles themselves?
3. Would the yard have a vehicle history so I know I'm getting parts from a vehicle not involved in an accident?
4. Miscellaneous recommendations/gotchas/crap to watch out for?

I'm researching rebuilding axles. I'm primarily interested in the housings. My reasoning for getting housings and not using what's already on my TJ is to keep from immobilizing my TJ while the axles are off. Ultimately, I'd like to swap out my axles with rebuilt axles.

Electric tools will be to your benefit. Big pry bars too. Maybe some kroil.

All you need is the vin for vehicle history. Maybe the RPO list if its a GM.

If you do see them pulling axles and selling them separate from the vehicles, the Dana’s Bill Of Material stamped on the axle will tell you what it came out of and what years.
