This will sound bitchy but I dont care. A month ago I pulled my TJ into the shop to do some suspension work on it. Put it on jack stands, removed the coils and shocks bla, bla. Went inside and ordered all the parts from vendors I have used for decades. Order up, and within a few mins I get a notice the funds have been removed from my account instead of whan they ship like normal. Then I wait..days go buy and no notice anything was shipped. I make some calls and I'm told Those parts are not in stock and need to be made. When will I see them?? They cant say. Thanks for the heads up when I ordered the parts people. Im pissed and tell them I want a refund and get one a few days later. Round #2, different vendor. Order parts, next day I get a notice they ship, sweet, I can get this thing back together. Then Fed X loses my stuff. Finally track it down and get my parts 4 days after the said delivery date. Ah well, cool, Im in business, lets get this back together. Wake up the next AM like a kid on Christmas day ready to play with the new toys. WTF, wrong parts in the right part numbered box. SOB...Call the company and order up a return ship slip and off they go. Get back home and put the old parts back in and say F' it. I'm done. Pretty sad what todays aftermarket has become IMO. After 45 years of wrenching on jeeps and 4x4's, Im done due to shit service and shit china parts.

They use the term long COVID to discuss lingering health issues but you could use the term to discuss supply chain and business. The shift in buying habits the difficulty in getting people to show up work I think will continue to linger on for awhile longer. My wife had to close her shop this year, just getting eaten up on rising cost of goods and unable to pass those on. The landscape is still shifting, not to say to be content is it still just a struggle bus to keep up.

for bolts and other similar hardware, McMaster-Carr is your friend.

They don't give them away for sure, and their shipping prices aren't all that great either. BUT - you can find your part FAST on their VERY will organized website, it will be top quality, and you will get it fast.

I ordered some chickenshit part from Quadratec a couple of years ago - no clue that it wasn't in stock until after I ordered the thing. Thank Goddess it wasn't critical path, it took 1.2 forevers to show up, but it did arrive eventually.

I placed an order with Rusty's Off Road about 3 days ago. While they didn't get it out the door McMaster fast, they still shipped it promptly and its halfway here already , arriving Tuesday. It helps that they did NOT ship it with "Fed-UP".

I thought Rusty’s off road was fubar too?

Dunno - so far they've been fine. I see what happens when the package arrives.

I also looked up my old Quadratec order, it was actually FOUR years ago (where has the time gone?) and was a locking gas flap.

Went down to Rusty’s off road. Wandered around their shop area. Nobody ever came out and asked WTF are you doing here? They don’t have a shopping area for visitors? In fact there were few folks around like workers? Weird. That was back in 2005 time frame.

Probably just mail-order back then.

Covid doesn't explain the state of mail/internet order these days... The truth of the matter is any Joe Blow can go into business by calling himself something cool like "Quadratech", and set himself up as a third party drop shipper on the internet. All you need is a slick website. It's a lot easier and less expensive than actually having a warehouse, stocking goods, and providing customer service.

The third parties love it because they get paid up front, yet they're not the face of the transaction. As a result, there is no incentive to provide a quality (or complete) product... And that's If they're not outright lying about in-stock merchandise and even supplying product at all.

Hide and watch-- As internet commerce continues to unravel because of lazy and unscrupulous business practices, there will be a return to brick & mortar enterprises catering to buyers who are sick of getting burned and who demand on inspecting the merchandise before purchase. Some of you are old enough to remember the Sears or Montgomery Ward "Catalogue Store". We just might be heading back to that, and that would be OK by me.
