Question on how I should build our TJ

Thanks. Here's some motivation for you. Me on the Rubicon Trail with 2.5" lift, no TT, and worn out 32's. It can be done. Just pick your lines, maybe stack a few rocks, and have a trustworthy spotter in the really tough spots.

Went to Moab last year and had a blast. Can't wait to go back.

Wow! Thanks for that! And no lockers. I’m inspired for sure!

LSD in the rear, open front. Had to pull cable once on a section on Cadillac Hill, but mostly cause I was being a puss and was playing it safe. Scarred up my fender flares a little bit, and a few dings underneath, but nothing too bad. I think I might have my old OME rear TB bracket laying around somewhere. You can have it if you want.

I’d love it, I definitely need one. How is the LSD in the rocks? Maybe a PM for shipping details? Let me know if you find it easily. Don’t look too hard on my account but it sure wound be much appreciated.

LSD wasn't ideal, but better than nothing. I'll look for that bracket tonight and shoot you a PM.

35s
4” SL
1” BL
SYE + DCDS
4.88 gears
Plus adj CA’s
Or
31s
2-3” springs
RS5000x
Tummy tuck
Still need SYE +DCDS
Keep 3.07s with 31s?

Without calculating it seems like a wash financially to me and once you do the SYE + DCDS you might as well go 4” SL but I do think I could go with 2” for now and do the tummy tuck and add 35s and 4” SL later. Sounds like a plan to me but do you recommend a re-gear if I keep the 31s for a while? It seems fine to me so far.

When you plan on the 35s, don't forget to budget in new steering and brakes.

Ya for sure. I’m going to stick with 31s and a small lift for now and slowly build up but slow could be fast depending on how you look at it. That’s what’s nice about no payments.

It’s hard to see but it’s bent from the spring. That’s an issue, I suppose I needed some bumpstop and a new one?

I joined this forum to keep my latest TJ purchase more of a overland type Jeep to drive to and from trails.

My other TJ is built like you are wanting one day. Here is the latest picture of it. I dont post it here a lot bc not a lot of hardcore crawler fans here.

Find a salvage 35 with 4.10’s. Look for a four cylinder TJ and it should have the 4.10 they would be a nice addition to 31s and 3.07’s. This keeps it cheap.

But if you are talking about building a serious rock crawler be prepared to learn and lot and spend a lot of coin. I have a lot tied up intoy Jeep collection. But i was able to budget a crawler in college. So it can be done. It depends on how bad you want it and how much you are willing to learn to do yourself.

I, for one, would like to see more details. While I'm not going for a crawler build, I can appreciate a good build no matter what its purpose.

Yes that is the end goal right there! I could stare at that rig all day. You have the best of both worlds. I know it’s expensive and I’m learning new things everyday. Thanks for the post and I’d also be interested in some details of that great looking machine.
