That's super cool! So they are going to bring back the cog railroad? I found a little book about it at the thrift store a while back, and it was interesting to read about all the generations of trains they have gone through. I remember riding it as a kid when we came out to go skiing.Sometimes I think I have the best job in the world. Not just for what I do, but for where I get to go.

This is on the Manitou Springs & Pikes Peak RR. The 100+ year old rail bed is being replaced. We are somewhere around 11,000”. I did an adjustment on the big yellow thing for the customer.
Just to give you an idea of what a 25% grade looks like.

Yes, they are updating the entire line. The original rail, ties, and cog rack were over a century old and shot. The new steel ties are set in the ballast instead of on the the ground like the old wood ones were. Should make for a much smoother ride. A lot of new rolling stock, too. I’m hoping to stay employed long enough to be there for the reopening. That's super cool! So they are going to bring back the cog railroad? Where is Beth Dutton?Yours truly on the Yellowstone River last Thursday. If you look hard enough in the very center of the photo you can see a black bear that crossed the river about 200 yards upstream.

X2Holy cow! The random stuff we/I find out about here is totally amazing.
When I saw the picture I almost posted a comment about hearing clank-clank-clank like the first hill of a roller coaster but I figured whatever I was looking at was due to something else. I wonder how long I'll spend tonight searching, reading and learning about cog railroads, after I hit POST REPLY.
The good ones always leave to soon, and the POS's seem to hang out too long. Just ask @KimsJeepvisited an old friend, not that I ever knew him personally but he was a local boy & I've loved his music since I was a kid, I was unaware until recently he was buried 10 minutes from my house.

I recommend Abalonetti's restaurant , on the left, down pretty close to the end. Order the "Marty's Special" if you like squid.
