So my fancy G2 core 44 was trashed from a car accident. I replaced it with a Dana 30 because i own a house now and im broke. My rear has a stock Dana 44 with tracklok limited slip.

I saved the Detroit truetrac front diff carrier with gears from my g2. Can this just be swapped out in the rear end using the eears bearings? It sounds like since the g2 was high pinion the gears would be reverse cut needing the swap of the ring gear. If i swap the ring gears does the backlash etc need to be reset? Is it worthy to swap these 2 diffs? I have the truetrac in lots of other pickups ive owned from GM and always had good luck with them, and enjoy their on and offroad performance.

Any thoughs are appreciated. I do have a few local truck shops that can do the work if its not recommended i do myself. I do have my own lift and shop at home but never set gears before.

I'm confused...Dana 30 is a front axle, but it appears you're talking about a rear Dana 35 as a replacement for a G2 Dana 44...I think I get what you're saying...

But yes a front G2 is a high pinion and most but not all D30s are low pinion and a Dana 44 carrier will not fit in a Dana 30 housing.

So depending on your ratio and being able to find a Dana 30 in said ratio your best bet is probably buying another G2 Dana 44 housing... otherwise you need a new carrier and gears.

What other damage was done in the accident?

Sorry for the confusion. I HAD a G2 Dana 44 front. Jeep came with a Dana 44 HD rear stock. I want to take the fancy detroit thing from my bent front axle and put it in my Dana 44 rear axle since both were Dana 44 should be an simple-ish swap as the carriers are the same. Just need to swap the ring gears because the front WAS HP and the rear is obv not.

The front axle is no longer involved, i downgraded and its just gonna live there for now as a stock 30. Sold the bent axle. Totaled a lincoln with it.

You should be able to take the TrueTrac and install it into your rear Dana 44 by doing nothing but bolting on the rear ring gear and then setting backlash. Take a before backlash reading, then set the new TrueTrac to have good preload and maintain the same backlash as you had before, then run a pattern just to see how it looks.
