Every time I see someone having to lift their spare tire's often very heavy weight in that kind of holder each time after needing to open the tailgate, I'm always curious what the motivation was to select that style carrier. I'm old enough to want to avoid having to lift my heavy 35" tires & beadlock wheels any more than I have to which is why I use a swing-out carrier.

In the 5 years or so of me owning my jeep I never opened the tailgate which is why I would get that bumper. If I would open it I would not buy this for the same reasons you listed.

I have a Rock Hard and LOVE IT!
I bought a Fishbone first and it was a POS that was basically uninstallable because of all the poor design and quality control issues. Quadratec let me return the Fishbone for the Rock Hard and I've been greatful ever since.
