Hi all,

I have a 2000 TJ with a SYE and Tom Wood drive shaft. I started to get some driveline vibrations with acceleration, so I was going to replace the u-joints. I've read the recommended ones are the Spicer 5-1310x, but couldn't find anything on which centering ball yoke to use. I plan on replacing that as well - would Spicer 211544X work? Spicer 211355X looks similar but is greasable. Is a non-greasable one recommended like the u-joints? First time rebuilding the double cardan driveshaft so appreciate the help. Thanks!

The centering ball on 3 Tom Wood’s DS on Jeeps are Greaseable. You have to use a different grease needle

We always use the greaseable 211355X. This is because in my opinion, when talking about the centering ball specifically, non-greaseable doesn't mean it doesn't need to be greased, it just means that you cant. Take a look at the photos below to see how the centering ball gets lubricated and you'll see that there is just a small cavity of grease under the ball. This can and will burn up or leak out eventually. Also, the rubber boot on the centering pin side of things that serves as a dust shield for the non-greaseable socket yoke can limit the flexibility of the joint. Or at least the rubber boot can get pinched and destroyed. In most stock applications this isn't really a problem, but in a lifted TJ, where the rear shaft is short and the angles can become extreme, flexibility is a concern.
