Does anyone have any recommendations on a good respirator mask for when I'm cutting and grinding metal?

I was looking at something like this that could be worn under my face shield:

That seems like it would do the trick, but the make a million different filters for it, and I'm not entirely sure which filter to use, since they have so many!

You want a filter or dust mask that is N95 rated, if I remember correctly.
It will have two straps, not one, or it can’t be N95 rated.

We never used the respirator you linked when we were cutting at work. But if we had, and if I remember the training correctly, this would be what we would have used.

If you were cutting a lot of material that was galvanized or ecoated I’d recommend more protection.
3m makes a kick ass mask that sold for $35 apiece!, or so we were told. It was amazing! You couldn’t smell anything while cutting

Any idea which mask that is? Truth be told, I would rather have too much protection as oppose to not enough.

I’ll see what I can dig up. It’s been a long time since I was issued this mask.

You may be talking about their FF-400 Ultimate FX mask.

That’s there top respirator mask. Of course it seems to primarily be used to vapors and thinks like painting and other gases.

I guess the nice thing is it has a face shield built in. I was planning to wear this one under my face shield, but I suppose I could just buy that mask and have the face shield built in.

I’m not finding the mask I remember.
This mask has a N100 rating and seems to be recomended often when fumes are involved.

For more protection, the 2097 cartridges for the respirator you linked in your OP look like a popular choice.

As an FYI, I’m not sure I believe the $35 figure we were quoted by the safety rep years ago. I’m sure not seeing it.

The $ mask spoke of was the disposable type but I don’t see it.

My 2 cents is go with something you can wear under your face shield like you’re thinking. That way you can change the shield when it gets scratched up.

If you’re not plasma cutting or welding so you create vapors, you’ll be fine with an N95 disposable mask or the 2091 cartridges.

Makes sense! Though the shields on those full face respirators are actually easily changeable.

But yes, I’m not using this for vapors, so it probably makes more sense to just get the type of mask I originally linked to with the N95 or N99 filters.

You couldn’t smell anything while cutting I have been watching a lot of videos from smartflix recently on knife making and it seems that many videos have the person doing the grinding at least wearing a mask but some of them have the grinder wearing an all out respirator like a paint respirator. Which would you recommend and why? Thanks https://metalprofy.com/metal/best-respirators-for-metal-grinding/

My humble recommendation for exposure to any fume producing process would be a high level 3M product. That company mass produces quality. Watch out for the cheap 3M Chinese knockoffs. Buy from a reputable store or 3M themselves through Amazon.
I used to use a particulate filter only. After seeing a particularly disturbing result from a colleague that sprayed some cockroach poison at his home and ended up disabled, I now use a particulate plus gasses filter. I definitely would leave fumigation to the professionals.
Around the house (painting, bug spray, lawn spray, grinding ect) I personally use this 3M mask with the 60926 filter level. I have placed links below for purchase and a second from 3M of what it filters.

Also, strongly consider eye protection if metal or other particles are going to be produced.
