Thinking of the snatch ring: Maybe the bigger soft shackle adds a lot of friction keeping the ring from spinning free?

And running the rope through a bow shackle that destroys the rope is better than both of the other methods? Their test is flawed for starters, they should be lifting dead weight and the scale should be between the mechanical advantage and the winch not the anchor.

I like the way this guy notes that has been around in sailing world for awhile and forgets to mention they are specifically not recommeded for high loads that need to be frequently adjusted.
