Some TJ/LJ's came with factory chrome grill, I'm assuming it was simply an overlay but not sure. If a TJ came with a factory chrome grill, is it an insert that can easily be removed to reveal a body color painted grill? How many have done this and found corrosion underneath? Any other issues with attempting to remove the factory chrome grill and go with painted grill?

From my understanding they're all covers/overlays on top of an actual grill. If you look online you can see that none of the chrome grills have the mounting points for headlights etc. like an entire grill assembly would. So there has to be something behind it.

I would assume its a body color grill, but I haven't ever taken one off to check.

Pretty simple to remove just the 2 plastic caps on the top of the cover and then just slides up. I was expecting some poor paint underneath if dirt/grit had gotten between it, but was surprised to find it rather protected.
