Here is a fun mod that I completed over the weekend and have been really pleased with the end result. I wanted a better third brake light than the stock unit and ran across THIS unit that looked up to the task. I made a mount that bolts in place of the stock unit:
For the wiring, I copied the design of the TJ trailer wiring harness and used weather pack connectors to plug into the stock wiring without any splices. The wire was routed through the stock light housing and out a cable gland to another weather pack plug for the light to plug into. I picked up the ground from the stock light as well.
I'm really pleased with the final result. The tail and stop light is plenty bright and the reverse light is a huge upgrade over stock. The downside is that I'm now shopping for LED tail lights too...
