I'm lookin for some advice on a good and hopefully not through the ceiling priced rivet nut gun or nutzert tool?
Like this one:

Or this one but it is a little spendy for something I am not going to use a lot of.

What is everyone using?
This is a copy of my go to tool. If they got 1/10th of the performance in the copy, it would be worth owning at that price. The two things that will kill it quickly are the mandrels not being tough enough and the handles collapsing. I've set 1000's of nutserts with my NCG but if this one will set a couple hundred without dying, it would be better than the short handle one and cheaper than the Marson.
I also have the Marson. It is okay, prefer the NCG.

Key is not tipping the tool over sideways when you are setting a nutsert. That breaks the mandrels.

I've been using the first one you posted for almost two years now. So far it's set close to 150 nutserts with zero issues. The handles are C channeled, but have shown no signs of bending. The mandrels seem strong and I haven't noticed any appreciable wear.

As was said the key to using it is keeping the nutserts square when installing them. Blaine will correct me if I'm wrong, but I also install them with incremental pressure. After using it for a while, I've gotten a feeling for when to stop.

Depends on where you are and what you are doing. Under the rig you sometimes can't get the handles open far enough to do more than a little at a time. If you're walking down a row for rails, get it close in one shot and then finish it off with a bit more if it needs it. Key is not tipping it over and breaking the mandrels. I've got a really nice setter that I may have to toss since I can't find mandrels for it.

I just drill a hole in a bar and use a lock washer and bolt to set them. I've done maybe 20 this way of various sizes. I don't see much use for a tool unless you need it for pop rivets or do allot of them. Those tools probably wouldn't have even fit in half the places I've set them. Blaine suggested that method for installing the large frame inserts and I've managed to use it for all sizes with good results.

I would love an excuse to buy a new tool, but I don't do enough riv-nuts or rivets to justify owning one. I've rented or borrowed what I needed for big jobs.

I use something not unlike this for the few riv-nuts I need to do (I think ACE even sells something similar bagged as a "kit" in the same bins as the riv-nuts), and a small "economy" rivet tool from the hardware store
for rivets.

I've done the bolt & lock washer trick before but I was going to be doing more than a few so I figured I could spend a little and make my life easier.

The only folks who don't think a nutsert setting tool makes your life much easier are them that have never used one.

The only reason I have never bought one up til now was I didn't use them a lot. But I have stuff now that I want to do to the Jeep and my bike where it will come in handy. Hence why I started this thread.

What about the pneumatic one? Are they worth the trouble? I know the pneumatic rivet guns I have used before have all been hit and miss.

We have that one. It is lacking in power to fully set a 5/16" so I doubt it will set the 3/8" they say it will and that is with the pressure turned up higher than they recommend.

I'm liking the one you posted @mrblaine. Read up on it some and think I'll get it. Thanks for the link!
