Unpopular opinion. Every car is going to miss some of your points, and you'll always be able to look at another car and think "wow wouldn't it be nice if I had that instead".

Coming from a guy that has 4 now and has gone through over 10 in the last 6 years. Figuring out how to make what you got work is probably going to be cheaper and less stressful in the long run...

You should have an LJ with an auto
 
Nissan Xterras are boring, but less boring than Ford Fusions. I told my sister I would buy her 2002 for whatever the trade-in value is when she started considering a change... If she follows through on her new car purchase next week, I am going to just get the thing running well again to get back into a proper SUV that is marginally more family friendly than the jeep. No new projects will come of it. 😏

No seriously, this can't distract from getting to the current goal line of midarm (on the shelf), trans cooler stuff (on the shelf), custom sliders, and custom housing design wrapping Blaine's beautiful tail lights in a different package I wanted to play with.

Don't tempt me with the 2" lifts to clear 33s on an xterra... Stop it.

Definitely not upgrading those 😂. I don't really intend to look into what aftermarket stuff can go on these. I'm getting it for $500 and really would kick myself for putting any money into a beater SUV.

But the purchase price is so low, think about how much fun wheeling something that you give 0 you know whats about would be!
 
Maybe I'll spin up a non-jeep build thread for a pretty much dead platform. But I'm pretty sure I added a bunch of HP with blue wires, it just needs a K&N sticker somewhere to lock in those last few HP.

Kidding aside, the ignition system was toast on the budget build 2002 Xterra. The wires were arcing, the spark plugs were way out of spec (you have to appreciate how engines still run with such out of spec components), and there's loads of fun downstream issues that throw invalid codes due to these types of issues.

I really need to break this out, so probably the last Xterra comment beyond linking to a new thread later.

Imagine a world where you could dial in your spring height with a bolt. Tortion bars are that world, and I've never known it before. Notice all the clean threads. Of course there's plenty of trade offs with IFS, so don't misinterpret that as me suggesting it's better or worse - just new and interesting to me.

It's significantly closer to correct, but I ran out of threads about 1/8" short at the door seam. I have new tortion bars coming this week along with some new shackles for the rear, so I'll have to do all the re-indexing work either way.

For a pretty cheap investment, I'm learning a ton on another platform and it's really enjoyable.

You are probably already aware of this, but adjusting the torsion bars sets where in the ride height the suspension rests. It doesn't change the max compression or max downtravel, so if you crank them up, you get less down travel and if you crank them down, you get less up travel.
