Hey guys I have a 2004 wrangler x with the 4.0 motor. Here lately when I press in the clutch when shifting up only the rpm’s will jump a couple hundred. It doesn’t do it all the time just every once in a while. Any ideas what it could be?

I would start by cleaning your Idle Air Controller (IAC):

If that doesn't fix the problem, consider replacing your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Sensors in our TJs should always be replaced with the Mopar version, as aftermarket brands are typically junk. I had a similar issue where the RPMs would jump to about 2,000 when I would push in the clutch. A new Mopar TPS fixed my issue.

X2, this is where I would start.

Thanks! I’ll have to try that because that’s about where mine will jump up to and if I’m already at 2,000 RPMs it won’t do it.

You already have the answer I would have given; but my story may help with diagnosing this and other problems.
I had a .... I'm lazy; it's between the picture of the valves and the rocker arms.
